Electric Pylon Racing at KWFD Scale Rally

For those of you who did not attend this year's KWFD's (Kitchener Waterloo Flying Dutchmen's) Scale Rally there was electric aircraft pylon racing at the noon hour demonstration.

The planes were the RTR (Ready to Run) PKA4200 F-27C Stryker by Parkzone. These are sturdy delta wing foam aircraft complete with brushless motors, LiPo's, Transmitter, Receiver, and balancing Charger and all were generously supplied by the local hobby shop, Flite Craft. Two sets of pilots were chosen from the registered rally pilots as a team for each aircraft. I'm not sure of the number of aircraft, but I think there were 5 or 6.

All planes were launched at the same time. The first pilot had to do four laps, land and then the second pilot had to do four laps and land. The first team to land after completing all the laps won, and they got to keep the plane and equipment.

I was surprised at the Stryker's performance and speed, and I think most of the other pilots were surprised as well. These planes flew well, had lots of power for victory rolls, loops and even going straight up.

It was a fun event to watch and a real crowd pleaser.

I've always wanted an electric plane that performed well and I think this may be it.

I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in purchasing these and perhaps starting friendly competition races between clubs? Also, if this is this being done else where already, would you please let us know?

The rules would be simple and may have to be established - the aircraft would be limited to stock Stryker's with a minimum wieght. They can be purchased locally or online.

What are your thoughts?

Thumbs up Re: Electric Pylon Racing at KWFD Scale Rally

That was so awesome...we are gonna try it at our club if I can rally up the Stryker guys...hopefully on diff frequencies and not all the ones that come stock. We heard that Scott had to swap out all the rec's/trans the night before. A club to club race would be cool providing we all know who's on 2.4 and what freqs are used beforehand.
Maybe a club order for a dozen from Flitecraft?
