battery packs for spektrum

Hi guys

I recently purchased a spektrum dx7. My question is, can I use my 4.8 volt battery packs with the spektrum receiver or do I have to purchase all new battery packs?

Re: battery packs for spektrum

Hi Ron,

There is no need for special battery packs with spektrum (that I know of). My only concern would be the voltage of your packs! batteries depend on the plane you're flying. For a 3D plane, or with digital servos, I recommend against using 4.8V packs. For sport flying or analog servos, you may be okay.

2.4 Ghz cannot go below 3.0 V or your receiver will "brownout" in flight under a large voltage drop. If your 4.8V batteries are older or well used, I would especially be worried about a voltage drop during flight. If they are new, you would probably be okay for a season or two with 4.8V, but do some testing prior to flight.

If your servos can handle the voltage, I would feel more comfortable using 6.0V packs (NimH, or NiCad), 2cell A123's or Lipos/LiIons through a 6V Regulator.

Someone else will will chime in with more, I'm no expert!! Just my opinion...

Re: battery packs for spektrum

I'm using 2 x 2700 nimh packs to power my spektrum system in my 35% Katana and have replaced the tx battery also with 2700 nimh.
