Coreless or Digital??

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hi everybody.

I am trying to figure out what is the difference between Analog Coreless and Digital servos.

I have some JR 4721's (Coreless analog servos) and some JR 8411 Digitals.

What is the difference between the two types?

Which one is better? and why?

How about the JR rep? (Sam, can you answer this one?)

Thanks,

Dennis

Re: Coreless or Digital??

Digitals have better holding power and develop their power sooner in the rotation, that's the basic difference. Brand of servo doesn't really matter.

This pretty much explains it,

Most of your high end servos are coreless motors, the only difference is digital or not.

Dennis,

First off, nice to hear from you...Secondly, as Chad said, the brand is not important, as they all pretty well do the same thing. The biggest advatage of digital is that they have constant power through out their entire rotation. But like most things in life, the trade off is that they do use more power. The JR 8411's and 4721's are both excellent servo's, and I'm sure will serve you well in whatever application you use. Just make sure you use enough power if you are using digital over analog. If you are unsure, send me a PM with your application and I'll give you some input.

I hope this helps
Sam

Re: Coreless or Digital??

Ok, from what I have heared or read, the Coreless servos whether analog or digital have better centering than Non Coreless servos, IS THAT TRUE?
For example a Coreless analog will have better centering than a non coreless digital??

Re: Coreless or Digital??

Yes Maqsood that is correct, take a coreless over cored any day regardless of internal circuitry.

The brushless servos from Futaba are better yet, a little more accuracy, but you really need the 2048 systems to take advantage of them.

All Servos have three major components. The circuitry/amplifier (analog/digital) the motor (ferrite/coreless/and now brushless) and the gear train/case (plastic/metal/etc) the combinations of these parts dictate the servo. Now each servo manufacturer has their own philosophy of which is the best way to put these together, and like all things, there are pluses and minuses to each of these components. In order to best choose a servo, you have to first see what your budget is, and what your application is, then select what will work best for you. Obviously, a coreless motor is better than a ferrite motor, but you will also pay for that luxury. So again, budget will come into play, and that will more than likely dictate your choice.

Re: Coreless or Digital??

Just for fun:

JR has just released a new line of servos called "High Voltage" servos. They operate at a higher voltage, and can run on straight 2 cell lipos. Check out the numbers on these bad boys:

I'm not sure what the metal is to be honest with you, and you are right...They aren't cheap. But they sure do sound good on paper. I guess we will find out when they actually are out there...
