Dead Transmiter

Hello all, yesterday i went to the field with my new Kavalier and my Futaba 4EXA to have a couple of flights and when i tried to put the Radio on, nothing, dead. I checked the battery and it was full, opened it up to check for a burned fuse, none. I never dropped it or nothing, it was working great last week. Does anyone have had such a problem.

Thanks

I'm not sure how the battery plug works on your radio, but is there any chance that you might have plugged in your battery backwards? This is assuming you're using a battery pack and not the stock tray.

I accidentily did that on my Futaba 3PK surface radio and the reverse voltage blew my TX module.

Other than that, I can't think of anything that might have caused your radio to go dead.

Hey Tyler, as you say with the Futaba battery there is only on way to put it in because of the connector type. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Dead Transmiter

Hi BullMax

I have a feeling that it is youre chargeing jack in the transmiter . If you are brave, take a digital volt/ohm meter and check that out . Do this without the battery in the transmiter .

BTW......... if this was an expensive radio , I would not tell you to do this

Re: Dead Transmiter

There are so many possibilities that without seeing it or knowing everything that happened, all you can get here is idle speculation.

After you check all the easy things, such as reversed battery plug, breaks in power feed wires, faulty on/off switch and anything else that is simple to do, if you still come up with no transmission, it's time to send it to a qualified technicain.

We don't even know very much about what is or is not happening. We have insufficient info to make a call. For instance, when you attempt to power up, does anything turn on? Any lights? And display board? Does that happen and there just isn't any transmission? If it powers up, how do you know the fault is with the transmitter and not the receiver? Is your crystal fully plugged in? Is it defective?

And on and on and on and...

First of all when i turn it on there is nothing, no beep, no display, no sing of life at all. I removed the battery pack and checked the voltage and it was full so my charging jack works, i could not plug it the wrong way since there is a dedicated slot in Futaba and its the manufacturer' batteries. I opened the back cover to look for a fuse, none. No wires seem to be cut or broken. Maybe its the switch. I'll try to have it checked this week by a fellow electronician at work.
Thanks

Re: Dead Transmiter

Hi Bullmax445,

Make sure you check the fuse with a meter - many fuse blow and look good, but are detached inside at one end.

Hope this helps.

Fly4Fun,

Wayne

98% of all such failures are mechanical in nature, probably a cold solder joint or a broken wire. Possibly a broken charge jack or switch. Less likely a fuse or burnt out voltage regulator.

If the LED comes on on the charger when plugged in to the radio, the battery and charge jack and wiring in between are probably fine.

The fuse is sometimes hidden in the back cover behind the module, not on the main board.

Take the module out and have a look there.

Good luck.
