Anyone have an opinion about who makes the fastest accelerating turbine? Merlin, Nexus or JC 160sx? I read a Jet Power review of the Nexus stating it was the quickest to full acceleration, but I tend not to believe everything I read lol!

Re: Fastest turbine

AMT Netherlands, fastest I've ever seen. Spendy, but they are the iron lung of model turbines, they run forever it seems.

To Marc and Gary "Yeah it's got a Ram in it"

Seriously, I've been impressed with the Jetcat SE line-up and the Jet Central Rabbit is also pretty amazing.

Re: Fastest turbine

I have flown a Rookie with a Jet Central Falcon that accelerates really fast. From idle, I can point the nose upwards, punch the throttle to full, and the plane literally takes off like a rocket.

Re: Fastest turbine

I haven't been around turbines enough to know the difference but every time I fly my Reaction with the Wren SS everyone comments on the throttle response.

From what I have read, the fuel pump and supply lines to the turbine have alot to do with the response time. I would guess that the burner can does as well.

Re: Fastest turbine

Merlin gets my vote, faster than any commercially available turbine I have seen or flown. Check the GTBA efficiency trials for real world unbiased specifications...

Re: Fastest turbine

The Simjet line has always had a fast spool time but my Wren's are also fast. Most new engines are pretty quick to spool.

Re: Fastest turbine

here's a piece of trivia...I just found out today that the Orenda 14 in the RCAF Sabres took 12 seconds to spool up!!!!
