R/C - U/C Cylinder timing?

I have an OS .61 F/I, R/E, R/C engine. One of the guys in the club said it would be ideal for U/C stunt A/C. I said all he had to do is install a Venturi in place of the carb. He said he did not want it because the port timing is different. Is this true?

Re: R/C - U/C Cylinder timing?

An R/C engine with rear exhaust indicates it was probably intended for tuned muffler use. In which case the timing is probably higher than that used for control line stunt. Maybe an engine for precision aerobatics.

Ed is right and if you still want to use it you may have to play around a bit to see if you can get it to run where you want it. Test run it with a prop and then I would add a head shim or two and then run it again. If I remember right they did not need a lot of compression for U/C and with some experimenting you may have a good runner for yourself.
