Re: A little Debolt history

Hey billmod12, those are really great - got any more to share?
I grew up in South Africa but there too LiveWires reigned supreme at that time! Just started work in Broadcasting and things electronic and aeronautical fascinated me so I was a convert immediately.
Even while I was still in College and before - my earliest cutting is from a 1948 Popular Mechanics showing how the Guff radio looked!
Had a LiveWire Champ in late fifties - Bonner Varicomps rudder and elevator and 'quick-blip' two speed throttled McCoy19!! Radio was a Phil Kraft Ace Kit-built single channel. Tx I also built myself.
We sure have come a long way in the intervening 60-odd years!

Re: A little Debolt history

I used to hate it when mamma spit in her hand to rub my head; the feelings of hate were amplified when grandma spit in her hand. Oh Well! Thank the Lord they invented Brylcream. I was successfully saved from being spit on the head.

Don't know where I'm going with this, except it's back to 1965!!!!

Re: A little Debolt history

Used to fly down at the syracuse club with Hal Debolt and Ed Izzo in the early 60s. Had a Debolt Trainer with maybe, Digimite reeds. Just rudder and throttle. OS Pet .09 for poop. Would loop and roll. Debolt was getting into pylon racing then.

mtnflyer, Maybe you had a 'cow-lick' or 'widows peak' they were trying to smooth down! Yup, 'a little dab 'l do ya!'
Gee, I got married in 1965 - just seems longer!

Re: A little Debolt history

What a nostalgia kick - the first pic in your first post (#6) could just be a Custom Cavalier from a Berkeley kit of the time but I'm not sure. Interestingly the last pic in last post (#9) is on the then new Citizens Band on 465 megacycles as it was then called! Quite an ambitious scale model of possibly a TriPacer with some nice detail. All the more evocative because that's when I really became involved in radio control and with the 'big boys', having just started working! And a bit of money! Thanks billmod.
