NSRCA membership worthwhile for Eastern Canada?

Hey all, thought this question is probably more relevant to the readers of this forum than elsewhere like rcuniverse forums and nsccra mailing list.

How do people here feel about the benefits of joining the NSCRA for people living in Eastern Canada? There isn't any district so we'd not be eligible for district championship points. Does being a non-member prevent you from entering contests? I just have a hard time seeing the benefit of joining. I don't really need another hard copy magazine as the web is a more timely and robust source for information anyway. I'm "not getting" something here.

It seems particularly odd as well, that as you move further away from the USA, where all the contests seem to be, that you have to pay increasingly large amounts to be a member. I would have thought they would drop the physical magazine and give an inexpensive membership on account of there being correspondibly little value in being a member, other than simply to support pattern as a sort of charitable exercise of giving to the community (which I'm not against at all, in fact I do make a small contribution each year to competition fund as part of my MAAC dues). But $65 bucks is a lot, I think I'd rather keep that money in Canada.

Re: NSRCA membership worthwhile for Eastern Canada?

Joining the NSRCA doesn't really "get" you anything except the K-Factor. The NSRCA is simply the US special interest group for pattern, like our committee's in MAAC. I think any NSRCA member can submit proposals for rules change, but they are sent to the AMA, and only AMA members can vote. There is a Canadian district and we are the only district outside of the US, but we have no district championships.

Since I attend the US Nats nearly every year, I think its important that I support the organization that does the organizing, but for the majority its a $50 US magazine.....there have been many discussions about online only, not sure where that is going to go, Dave Reaville could answer that as he participated in the board meeting in July.

The FAI governs the FAI class sequence and rules (AMA rules are slightly different). In Canada we generally adopt the US Masters and Advanced classes, use our own Sportsman and Intermediate and follow FAI rules for scoring etc.

Re: NSRCA membership worthwhile for Eastern Canada?

Hi folks

Further to Chad's comments on the NSRCA's membership and the K-Factor, I am not alone in the belief that the main reason most people join is to get the K-Factor publication. This is without doubt the best Precision Aerobatics related magazine in North America (perhaps the World )and offers articles and reports that encompass not only the USA but Canada and the World Championships as well.

Many years ago Canada was invited to join in the K-Factor publication and several people have, over the years, contributed monthly articles. Originally Canada was split into two Districts, East and West but since early last year it is now just Canada.

I have made efforts to promote the idea of a downloadable version, at a reduced cost of course, but at this point nothing has been decided. Whether you decide to join and receive a monthly K-Factor or not is a personal choice but the main reason that the cost goes up outside of the US is simply postage. Throw in the exchange rate and the cost becomes prohibitive for some. My thoughts are that we could dispense with the postage and publication costs, reduce the price and at the same time create a wider subscription base and subsequent advertising target for suppliers. Everyone would win. The kicker is that many people want the hard copy so some publication costs will remain.

So here is a bonus for Canadians…..

For those Canadian folks that are interested in a one time, free electronic copy of this month’s K-Factor edition, please e-mail me with your postal code to patternwestnews@shaw.ca and I will send you a link to download it.

It may be just a coincidence but Chad’s Integral is on the cover
