Every year I take the first Monday of December off and get all my shopping done in a marathon day.

My wife actually loves to go out at the last minute to shop. Each year I wish her a safe trip to the mall and go into my shop, our own Christmas tradition

Re: RCCanada Christmas 2008 Contest

I haven't been able to stop thinking about Christmas dinner since Thubner made his post, oh boy, quite a few pages ago now. Talking about Turkey & stuffing, w/mashed potatoes & gravy....!!

Thought maybe since everyone pretty well mentiones Christmas in their posts, well seeing that it is just about time for Christmas, it would be a fun idea to see what folks have for their special Christmas meal!

Do you have the "traditional" Turkey & fixins, or do you do something different?

I'll start off with the something different! Every three or four years, when we were kids, we'd to from Brantford to Welland to visit my grandparents for Christmas. My Papa, on my father's side, immigrated to Montreal Canada from the Ukraine back in the 20's I believe . My Grandmother was born and raised till she was a young girl in a small town just outside of Insbruck, Austria.

For Christmas, grandpa would do most of the cooking making old country receipies that we just loved. Potato soup & homemade bread. His own homemade Kielbossa & real Headcheese that was two inches thick, the real jelly stuff! And a huge baked ham with a brown sugar glaze with sliced pineapple and all these little black sticks, which I found out years later were cloves. Mashed patoes, squash, turnip, and buttered carrots.

Now you would think that was more than enough right?? Wrong!! How about adding mashed potato, cheddar cheese, & bacon bit Perogies boiled, then pan fried with onions & more bacon bits....served with Sour Cream! AND I musn't forget the Holupchi...Caggage Rolls stuffed with rice and a mixture of pork, viel & lean hamburger!

Now that was a feast to behold! Ask me sometime to tell you what we had at Easter when we went to gram's & grandpa's! Again it wasn't exactly your traditionl Easter dinner either but it again was a feast we would always remember. Let me give you just a hint. A whole oven pan full of...ahhh...the curly part that sticks out of the back end of a piggie! LOL yep and boy oh boy they were delicious!

Now of course, we have pretty much the traditional Christmas dinner with Turkey & stuffin, whipped patatoes, gravey, buttered carrots, either turnip or mashed butternut squash, and of course the crown....CRANBERRY Sauce!!

Ok, lets hear it guys (& gals ) what you have for Christmas dinner!!

Re: RCCanada Christmas 2008 Contest

Speedy, , ,

The bio behind Swee-Pea is actually quite remarkable for a 1933'ish cartoon. I have the whole bio on my office machine. I'll add it to the list on Monday.

Anyone got the full bio for Wimpy??

Was Wimpy ever in any Christmas cartoon?
