Staudacher conversion

Recently I tried to sell my OS61 powered plane but there was no interest. So I decided to spend some money on el. conversion. Bought myself Scorpion brushless motor from another rc member and installed it in place of the OS. I spent some time thinking about aluminum brackers that I would have to make to move the motor about 50mm forward from the fire wall. But after discussion with a friend Sam I went to Building supply store and bought one 1.5" diam ABS coupling. the coupling is only about 25mm long so I extended it with a piece of vacuum tube which fitts over the fitting nice and snug. Then I cut it to 50mm length. Then I had to cut four 1/8 diam ready rod pieces about 65mm long, to tie the alum. cross mount to the fire wall with the ABS spacer in between. My friend is flying two of his planes with this set up, so far without any problem.
Here are some pictures of my conversion.

Thumbs up Re: Staudacher conversion

Looks like a great job, so how does it fly with this new engine?

Wink Re: Staudacher conversion

It is still waiting for matching Esc. I hope it will be ready in January. But there is a problem right now. We received about 40cm of snow here on the west coast in three days! Which is quite unusual. So lets hope, before I get the plane redy the snow will turn into liquid sunshine (rain) as we call it here.

Re: Staudacher conversion

looks good Jan . So what size battery will this use what is the KV of the motor and watts.I just finished doing a Funtana you can see it in heading Electric Flight. I am also working at converting a 1/4 Swick T Craft I have been working at for a few years. Hopefully it will have wind over its wings in the spring. I have quite a few planes so ot much room to add more to the hanger so I have sold a few engines that where previously installed in the planes and used the money to convert to electric
