Anybody going out New Years Day its a tradition for me and the guys I fly with. Whatever the weather we always go out and have a flight or two, get a fire going and cook some hot dogs.

Re: New Years Day

There is a bunch of us from the Aurora club going tomorrow.
We got just enough snow last night that we need to use skis.
After last weekends big melt we thought we were going to have to use wheels.

Re: New Years Day

Man, there was a time when I wouldn't even think of not flying a flight or two on New Year's Day.

I guess as you get older, the cold numbing your whole body, taking seemingly hours to thaw out, just doesn't seem worth it anymore. So I'll stay home and read all about your adventures and smile with you as I sip my cup of hot chocolate wishing I could have been there!

Have fun and enjoy, my friends, and know, that some of us old foggies are there with you in spirit at least!

Please, a safe and Happy New Year to all my RCCanada friends!

Re: New Years Day

At Ajax we have a big party. A big vat of homemade chicken soup, coffee, donuts and snacks. It's our Frozen Finger Fun Fly. We have a stove in the shelter for those that can't tolerate the cold as well.

No planes run before noon, then at high noon first person to start their plane, do a complete circuit and land gets the honor of winning the first flight. Basically bragging rights but we have a blast. Next time we're all together (except the faithful few who attend meetings) is the spring so we all make sure we have some fun.

Last year got snowed out so this year we'll be there with a vengence.

Re: New Years Day

The driveway is clear and the field is ice covered, (bumpy), with snow patches. Skis and large wheels will work nicely.
Everyone in the GTA watchout for ice under foot.
Who said the flying season has ended, this just another chapter in the great adventure.
Good flying all.

Re: New Years Day

Our field in Blind Bay, BC is ready with plowed road and parking. About 2-3 feet of snow on the runway. Floats will be used to fly off the soft snow. Probably no skis in attendance.
-2or3C tomorrow hopefully no more snow.

chili, buns and hot drinks will be served.

Re: New Years Day

Just got back from our event. What a hoot! Great turnout! Just a little bit of snow on the ground to hand launch and land the Weston Magnum R I bought off of Pianodude. My knees are still shaking. LOL!!

Re: New Years Day

We had five of us out at the Hespeler field this morning. Just enough snow cover for the skis. A few engines did not want to start but I was up 3 times with my old Stick 40. A few drops of lighter fluid and the engine fired right up. Nice 'fresh' day out there. Was great to come home and put three more flights in the log book.
