Another fun day of in the box flying in Northern Ontario. With the threat of snow tonight on the first day of spring it was a good turnout at the auditorium. Indoor flying is winding down and the end is in sight for the lighest plane competition, I flew with my FRSky 2.6 gram 4 channel receiver today. It performed flawlessly and was easy to set up. A real buy at about $15.00. You must have the transmitter module however, but it was a deal at $53.00 with an 8 channel receiver for the telemetry version from HK. Gaston and I have climbed on the fuselage stiffening wagon right behind Ray in an attempt to see if rolling performance can be improved. It certainly seems to help but is not necessary. Anyone with some extra 1mm CF rod can try this. The pictures show Gaston holding his version while my slightly different version is seen upside down on the floor. (placed there not flown there) I'm going to build 300 and another Yak to put bracing on for some outdoor flying this summer. Hope to get to Aurora next Sunday so might miss some flying.

Hugh

Hugh
Thanks for your post, I was a little skeptical before installing the CF braces but I found that they make a huge difference, as Hugh says you don't need them for regular flying but if you do rolling circles and lots of aerobatics, they really help. You only need 4 pieces of 1mm approx. 3inches long on each side. You don't even need to insert them in the foam, simply hot glue them on the surface, none of them came off after 3 hours of flying...

Re: Blue Foamie

I am glad to see that Hugh and Gas are embracing the cross-member reinforcement idea. I was amazed on how stable the plane became once I installed them, knife edge became so stable I was no longer required to constantly compensate while performing these maneuver. Rolling circles and all other aerobatics became easier especially hovering. What I noticed is; without them the tail would tend to twist a little under the prop wash and would create unwanted effects that would tend to make the plane fly as if you had inputted ailerons. The plane is so stable now and fast that I can perform snap rolls indoors.

That's my tow cents.
Cheers

Re: Blue Foamie

Hey, that's quite the mod... And only use 1mm CF??
Well, when the new kit gets here, I will be ready, found a pile of the 1mm I purchased years ago, and never knew what to do with it...... Now, I knows!
I noticed this is still the square cutting one... Hope the X ones come to us..

No fears Art, that is still the same one I had in London with CF added and repairs from previous flights. X-pattern planes are being sent these days.

Re: Blue Foamie

Hi Gaston:

When I flew your S Bach here in London it was awesome. The motor is a perfect combination. I like to buy the exact motor you have. What is it? I am using an Axi and it is way overpowered which of course means weight.
