I have lots of small pieces of maple.
Send me a PM and I'll give you all you need. As for the 7" wide piece I would substitute 1/4 inch thick Baltic birch aircraft grade plywood. Thin pieces of any solid wood that are only 1/4" thick and 7 inches wide will warp badly. Just for the record Beech is not a softwood.

Re: Source/Substitute for Building Materials

Nice plan. The Fox has been one of my favourites for a long time. My father used to take me to Southport beach (we used to live close by) to watch one giving pleasure rides. Aparently at the end of the day the pilot would fold the wings and toe it through town to his garage. I dont remember seeing it as I would have been only 2 back then!

There is a nice example in the Aviation Museum in Ottawa that would be good to model. I think it is equipped with floats.

Re: Source/Substitute for Building Materials

Thanks for the comment. I was born in Southport. I am going to model mine after G-ACEJ which was one of the two Fox Moths that flew off the beach. The picture with my original post is what it looks like today - silver/blue whereas in Southport it was white/silver with red trim. The silver/blue is its original colour scheme between 1932 and 1936 before it was bought for the Southport operation.

You are correct about the fold back wings - the model has them too. Another interesting fact was that the owner/operator was Norman Giroux & his brother who were French Canadians.

I knew about the example in Ottawa but haven't had a chance to get there yet. Definately intend to go. The model plan has a few omissions & mysteries that I hope viewing the real thing would help unravel.

Attached is a pic. of the folding wings & one of the model.
