Snow Floats: For many years I have toyed with the idea of fixed skis like floats. I have seen quite a few A/C both model and ultra-light where one ski has flipped up or the dreaded down. It was always caused by improper rigging. Anyway I got the idea when Tom Savage broke off the back of both skis on a hard landing and he continued to fly that day with only the front half of the skis, it seemed to work fine. A couple of friends in ultra-lights got stuck when their A/C sunk to the belly when they stopped. To get out they had to pack down a takeoff strip with snow shoes. These skis are twice as long as normal skis and are permanently fixed in the line of flight position. The back is angled up 10 deg. where the M.L.G wheels would be. Tricycle - 10 deg aft of the C of G and conventional 10 deg. forward of C of G.. A normal nose or tail ski is used and it would stick down about 1/8" below the main skis with the A/C at rest ( on the table). Do not ask for pictures I do not have any.
