Finding Kits

       Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
For all of those fellows that are complaining about the lack of kits in this changing world, on RCU there is a thread called;

Where Have All The Kits Gone ? - 11/10/2008

I have been watching it for a while and then I started listing the recommended kit builders (sites) after two pages I gave up!

You can still build, you just have to look a little harder, here’s a sample;

Top Flite

Great Planes

Balsa USA

Top Notch Model Products

Tower Hobbies

Bruce Tharpe Engineering

Stevens aero

Mountain Models

RC Pterodactyl Kits 26% Pitts M-12

WWII warbird kits

electric model kits
Life is either a daring adventure...
...or nothing.

Re: Finding Kits

Just depends what you're looking for. And look you must.

For instance, Goldberg, Top Flite, Dynaflite, and Great Planes all come under the Tower banner, so that's duplication to add Tower.

Proctor is highly detailed and very labour intensive - you even laminate many peices to form spars and wing leading edges.

Glen Torrance Models of WW I planes are even more labour intensive beautiful planes.

Some are just pure junk.

Skyshark states on his website that undera absolutely no circumstances that he will ship to Canada. He has even posted on RCU where he thinks Canadians are dorks, so thus his decision.

Some are generally too large or not really scale.

Some of those listing have virtually no selection.

It takes a lot more to find what you are looking for in a kit than in an ARF.

And don't forget those wonders of engineering and manufacturing - Guillow's kits - especially the die cut versions!

Re: Finding Kits

I would just like to mention, that aside from there being a raft of kits still available, there is a whole hoard of builders plans available.

RCM, Model Airplane News, and Flying Models, just to name a few common N.A. sources. A huge number of common sources exist in Europe, if one looks. Plans building is every bit as easy as a kit, for those who have a few under their belt. Just more labour intense.

It's true that the ARF reins supreme in this modern world, but, the builder will never be out of work none-the-less.

I've spent most of my money and time on model airplanes, mean women, and beer. All the rest was just a waste.

Don't forget Ziroli and the numerous providers of short kits for those plans.
