hi, after years of running nitro mt's i am wanting to get into flying, and what i am wondering is i have the chance to get either a exi trex 450 sev2 clone with a futaba 7ch, or an e-flight blade 400 3d with spectrum dx6i, they are both about 2months old with few flights on them, no damage. both are in ready to fly states..

as i am new to this stuff, especially electrics, which one would be the better deal, they are asking the same price in case your wondering, thanks...

Re: trex or blade400

I fly a t-rex 45o and my Uncle fly's a blade 400. They will both do all the same manuvers. One thing to think about is parts support. It seems that there is more blade400 parts locally. So when you crash you can drive to the local hobby shop and be flying again in a couple hours. Where I live there is no local t-rex parts, so everything is mail order. On the same token, I can order t-rex clone parts from Hong Kong for less money than the blade 400 parts can be bought locally.

If you're flying with someone else, think about getting the same heli as them so you can beg/borrow parts from them if you need to.

Re: trex or blade400

Parts for the blade are generally cheap and very available. But you will have to do some upgrading if you want your blade to up to the same standard as the trex...servos, gyro for sure...

Re: trex or blade400

Depends on the electronics on the trex clone. The exi is not a great clone IMO considering the kit(no electronics) sells for less than $100 US. Not saying that there's anything wrong with cheap... just that you get what you pay for in most cases.

Resale if you don't like flying helis would be better with the blade 400.

Blade 400 also has the DX6i which is a 2.4ghz spektrum radio.

As for parts support, I'm surprised that the hobby shop has more eflite parts than align considering align has pretty much dominated electric micro helis for the last few years.

From what I've seen and heard, the blade 400 parts cost more than align parts.

The EXI is supposed to be compatible with most align parts but I don't know for sure as I don't own one.

Re: trex or blade400

The Blade will probably be worth more to sell as a package when you're ready to move up, and believe me, once the heli bug has bitten, you'll want to move up. Unless you are really strapped for funds, there are several "real" 450's for sale on RCC including mine!!! If there's one thing I've learned on this journey is don't cheap out on the equipment. Buy the best and you'll only cry once.

Re: trex or blade400

Ive owned a Esky Honey Bee King II, Blade 400. Both have been sold... Quality I feel is lacking in both. Right now I own three Trex's. A 450SE, 450SEV2 and a 600N. Parts are available online, and while I feel it's great to support the LHS, sometimes it's not worth the effort (and money). A 450 with metal head and tail units is going to last longer and through more crashes than the Blade400 will. and you will crash.. make no mistake on that.
