Its funny how quickly a turbine will erode pavement eh? Jon D experimented with a 'hover board' at work a few years ago, using a TJT-3000 mounted vertical. He took a pressure tap off the case and had gyro's driving puffer jets on multiple axis. It never really worked that well though and crashed before he got it tuned well enough to really play with it... The exhaust cone was ~1.5 ft from the pavement, and it burnt a crater in it as soon as the heat started to rise. I don't think it was a thrust thing, but rather a temperature thing, where the hot (but rapidly cooling) exhaust gasses melt the tar to loosen up the gravel.

I'm pretty sure this is the same reason Harrier's are so restricted in where they can do a vertical take off.

I am used to the 28lb thrust class engines, they push pretty good, this 160+ is off the fricken hook! Fast acceleration, instant deceleration, smooth start, and holy cow, thrust!!!!!!
I took some pictures but need to get a new cable for my card reader to put them on here, but on the back of a kingcat, there is enough power once it warms the asphalt up, to quite literally tear chunks of the asphalt right out of the parking lot, I have a picture of this!
Time to change the elevator servo's in the Kingcat, I don't think the 8411's are up to the task right now.
I will post tomorrow with pictures and some more info!
Sooo... inquiring minds need to know.... how much thrust is a 160 size turbine capable of?

Re: Got some new motion enhancers ;)

This engine is a new Booster prototype, the production engine will be released at Jetpower this year.

My thrust measuring method is not that accurate, but impressive none the less.
I simply used a bathroom scale against the wall, with the nose of the kingcat against that. At full thrust @ 117,000rpm, this brute was reading 44lbs of thrust on the scale. It would be interesting to put it on a fish scale or something to see if that number matches, either way, it's going to haul the mail in that Kingcat!
