I need help to tune my gasser

Hi Guys,
I was wondering if someone could help me out.
I am new to gassers this season and would like to have an expeirienced person help with tuning my engine.
I have been talking to many people with the same engine I have, an MT-57.
Trying everything they suggest.
I am not suggesting that it s not a good engine. I just don't have any experience with them and would like someone else who knows what they are doing to twist the needles
For all I know the engine could be running exactly like it should at this point.
Would just like to know from someone who would know.

Re: I need help to tune my gasser

Brad, I had similar "problems" with my G-62 when it was new.

IMO, it ran poorly until it got a few gallons of gas through it. Got better as it went.

The claim was 10,000 rpm on a 20/10 prop. I could not get more than 6,000 to start. Later on, after a couple of gallons of gas, I adjusted it to bring me up to about 7,400 and it immediately put out 7,800-8,000. I backed it off to 7,400 again and after another tank of gas, it was back to 7,800-8,000.

Still not broken in, I decided to no longer worry about it since things have now smoothened out and it's starting to pull very well. The instructions said no specific break in required, just fly. Now my attitude is fly it like you stole it. It will either break or break in. Giver 'er hell.

You are not going to kill your engine, no matter what the make or model, if you are running a tad rich, have adequate lubrication and good cooling and you are not overloading it.

Re: I need help to tune my gasser

Big mistake is where the MFG. tells us 5 HP at 10,000 rpm without explaining that the running RPM is much lower than that, usually best rpm is between 7 and 8,000 rpm.
Tried for my kamikazi pilots licence. Flunked the test.

In our squadren of WarBirds we have two MT-57,s and let me tell you this is a excellant engine , with plenty of power . As the above posts have mentioned to you . As long as the engine doesn t flame-out , give youreself some time to adapt , check youre RPM,s , keep it RICH .

It,s most likely doing a lot of what I call POP,ing , in the air . Pass some gas , and things will change
