Lots of good advice here.

My take is to find a club that is more "social" than competitive. Be prepared to take lots of good natured ribbing when you screw up and be sure, it helps you to learn when you can accept the stress of embarrassment.

And go beyond flying - cut grass, buy / cook hot dogs for fun flys, contribute at meetings - in other words PARTICIPATE.

These tips have a good chance of taking you through the inevitable low points when you crash a few and want to give up. Trust me, you will want to give up but being a MEMBER of the club will pull you through.

And I'll take the liberty to add: Get ahold of a little bit of balsa and build something. Whether it's just a plank C/L model or a kit dosen't matter. Breath it, feel it, build it; you'll feel like you accomplished something.

The world cannot give you a more exciting, safe hobby.

Re: New here

I taught myself to fly on the Hobby Zone Super Cub. Don't let everyone tell you it can't be done. They're super easy to fly. The only downside is that they small and not super powerful, so you can't fly them in heavier winds of which a larger heavier trainer might be able to, which might then eat into your training time.

But I hear you on the costs! That's the biggest reason I didn't get a glow trainer. But there's no reason you shouldn't be able to learn on the Super Cub. I just have a feeling that most of the clubs you'll look at won't agree.

Edit: I didn't mean that to sound like a negative for joining a club. Definitely try and join one. The instructors will help you a lot and it's also much more fun to fly with other people.

Re: New here

thanks i'm looking for clubs in my area.
see i have a huge soccer field where i can walk too and i have a big pond behind my house i wanted to put floats on the cub ?
the new cub is a lipo from what i see it goes pretty good .
i think maybe this winter i may buy a trainer of a bigger scale if the price is right, but i like the fact that the cub can be flown anywhere thats the part i like.
