This message is for Chad et al. Congratulations on your participation in the recent 2009 Worlds in Pombal. I have a couple of questions which perhaps one of you can help me out with.

1) What airplanes were the Le-Roux brothers flying? and

2) Were these planes equipped with a T cannalizer?

Thank you for educating me on these issues.

Re: F3A Championship in Portugal

Hi Eduardo,

Both the PLR's flew the Axiome (from Oxai models), I had a long talk with Christophe about some of the design details since the plane is rather unique and posted it on my blog.

Absolutely they had a canalizer, but much larger (600mm span, around 150 sq in area), and are more like a psuedo biplane.

I think you will see a lot more large canalizers in the future, I was using one that is 390mm span and will be getting larger for next year.

As usual a lot of interesting things showed up at the WC's

Chad, congrats to the 3 of you for flying our flag over there. And nice placing on your part....you're up there amongst the sharks!

The ongoing RCU thread/rant is quite entertaining. Some things will never change...good beer talk for the next time we meet.

Re: F3A Championship in Portugal

Thanks Jeff, it was a fun time as usual! I am slowly getting there, but lots of work to do yet, I have a bit left in me yet though

The RCU stuff is funny, some people did get a bit of a raw deal though, not from the judges but from the fact that normalizing can influence the scores a lot in certain circumstances. The flight order was just right for CPLR to help his brother get a high normalized score which influenced the results a lot.

Anyone that had a better second unknown got a huge normalized score and went way up in positions, if CPLR did not flub a few maneuvers this would not have happened.

People are point the fingers at the judges and the contest but it was really just CPLR and BPLR getting lucky and using normalizing to their advantage, obviously this sort of thing should not be allowed but there is nothing to stop it currently.

This is one reason I never liked pilots raw scores being made public.
