This is why I recommend ussing plywood for the spars. It's stronger lighter and can be whatever size you want. It's usually available at your LHS. You just need a table saw or know of someone who has one. I have broken a spar before. It depends on how hard you are going to push your plane.
I keep having the same mechanical problem. I've got a loose nut on the transmitter!
