Start Up of an Indoor Club

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
I would like to know of a web site or where I may get info on starting an indoor heli flying club. Questions I have are: building requirements ; size of models; rules of flight; insurance required.

Also are there any indoor clubs located in Sask.? Or a list of indoor clubs in Canada?

Thanks Don.

Re: Start Up of an Indoor Club

I think you'll find that most indoor activities are regular clubs locating indoors for the winter - that's what we do.
Membership requirements don't change.

the biggest challenge we have is getting an appropriate size facility that has not already been scooped by indoor soccer, floor hockey, badminton etc.
The size of the facility will dictate the size of the aircraft. One season, we flew airhogs almost exclusively (pretty lame I know) we've now progressed to foamies and better. One fellow took the guts from several Airhogs and made a 4 motor B-17 - it didn't do much more than fly around, but it was a hoot.

Re: Start Up of an Indoor Club

We started to fly in a very small gym and moved last year to a facility of three gyms wide, I invited members of all three clubs in our community and we get together every Sunday for lunch at a restaurant near the school followed by two to three hours of indoor flying. I've seen up to 25 people, including spouses , I find that getting together prior to the flying is a big part of the enjoyment.
We are very fortunate that we don't pay anything but I make sure that we don't have unwanted guests while we are in the school, if that ever happened, we could loose the privelege. I install a bell in the gym connected to an outside buzzer every Sunday for latecomers, the school principal was impressed with the system and told me that we'll always be welcome. Our gym is in the center of the school with no outside wall, that's why I had to improvise.
All I can say is that we have a great time and we're looking forward to the weekends all winter.
