A couple of other ideas...

CommonSenseRC.com has a motor selection chart... however it applies specifically to their motors:

HeadsupRC also has some selection data for their line of inexpensive brushless motors... thier product line is mainly smaller motors for parkflyers, etc but they do have some larger ones for up to .40 gas equivalent. Try to e-mail them... they are very helpful.

Re: Electric gear for small plane.

Many of the websites, Maxprod, Eflite, HK. show the equivalent elec. to glow. Just a rough rule of thumb I've noticed. The diameter of the electric motor is close the glow motor size. For instance, my Himax HC5018, the first two numbers are the dia, of the motor, is equivalent to an OS 46 FX. A buddy has that OS motor on a Twist 40, same as mine, and they are neck and neck for speed. I have some other 25 sized elec, etc. and noticed the same thing. To pick an ESC, look at the amp draw of the motor in the specs. and pick an ESC that is capable of About 20% more amps. For instance if a motor shows 15 amps, a 20 amp. ESC would be fine. Hope this helps a bit.
Tried for my kamikazi pilots licence. Flunked the test.
