Composite ARFs are the way to way to go, IMHO.

A few nice ones are: (I would post links but the website crashes when I do)

K&A Models (these are not an ARF)

Ultraly makes a cool one calles the Spear.

Even Hobbyking's TM Sniper Pushy Cat is neat as a pusher!

As for landing gear, initially don't bother on the 70mm size EDFs, they add weight, complexity, and expense, although they look very cool though. Just launch from a bungee and rails, and belly land in the grass for the first few flights, then look into retracts.

Re: Looking for a first EDF

I think I'll get a foamy to start out, as I'm fairly good at fixing them from my learning experiences early on.

I think the RC Lander F16 is going to be the one. It won't be super expensive to outfit and it'll let me get my feet wet with EDFs, with a plane that I like and that should move pretty good! I'm pretty good with fabricating, too, so I should be able to strengthen up the front landing gear on the F16.

After I fly the wings off that one, I'll look for a nice composite to do up right!

Thanks for your help, guys! I'm looking forward to trying this aspect of the hobby!

Smile Re: Looking for a first EDF

check out the Phase 3 F-16. I bought one off the web NIB for just over a hundred bucks.
There were a few of them flying at our field and I thought they were ho-hum.... until my buddy bought one - he is a former F-86 - T33 pilot ( full size).

He said, man you got to buy one of these F-16, they are a great bang for the buck so I did.

I love it, it hand lauches easliy, the motor, fan, and speed control work well, it flies good and was a cheap way for me to get to know about EDF's. Now I have a T33 and f-104 on the build.
cheers !

and the $18.99 Hobby City Flightpower 3s 2200 mah lipos work great on this F16 for me.

ps - I did get the little sucker up to 90mph on a radar gun one day.
