From the other side of the Kit/ARF debate...I built kits when I was young, single, and had time...but hardly every got them to fly. I got frustrated and gave it up. Now I'm 41, have 2 little kids, work too much and generally have no time for anything. ARF's have allowed me to get back into modelling and actually end up flying what I put together. I admire and very much respect scratch builders and wish I had the time and abilities to do all that work, I'm sure it's much more gratifying. For me, though, if it weren't for ARF's, I wouldn't be involved in this fine hobby at all.

Drink 'em if you got 'em. Fly 'em if you got 'em. Best not to mix the two might get confused and start downing nitro fuel.

Re: Flying Drunk

Well well expressed Dean! I just wanted to make it clear that I have nothing against ARF's and have had two or three myself. And I do appreciate that for some its a way, maybe the only way, to be a part of the hobby and thats a good thing.

Being retired and having the time on my hands I am fortunate to have a shop where I can build during the winter months, keeping myself busy in a hobby I thouroughly enjoy.

I know its difficult for some to find the time and space to build but I would encourage anyone to build, even a small kit. It gives you a perspective you wouldn't have otherwise and there is nothing like seeing a box of sticks develope into an airplane and seeing it fly for the first time, it's such a rush!!

I am just happy that there are alternatives, whether ARF's, kits, plans, etc that allow just about anyone to have a plane and fly, and enjoy the greatest hobby in the world....and just about the best darn folks in the world to enjoy it with.

Re: Flying Drunk

I have never considered flying under the influence but have given my opinion while suitably hammerred and am still suffering the consequences. Therefore in my now humbled opinion any dangerous task such as flying rc aircraft, answering wifes questions etc etc etc. are quickly side stepped.
