I was advised to use a product called Doculam by one of our American friends, to cover a model (Military type), that I will then paint camoflage with colours. Does anyone know where I can purchase this material. The local Staples store only sells it in 9" x 12" size. I am told taht it is available in 25" widths x 500 ' lengths.
If there is a similar product available from Canada, I would appreciate hearing about it.

Re: Doculam

I have done the same research has you have done.
I do not live far from the USA/CAN border and
went to USA stores. Yes, they have it there in large
rolls and expensive for me...its like a 100 years
supply. is not available here in Canada.
Sorry....after hours of research.....if you come
up with a better solution...please let me know.

P.S. It is market as document covering and available
in box stores such as Staples and what have you.

Re: Doculam

I just had a conversation with a rep from Staples about this; most un-helpful. Someone in Ontario bought some from Staples, sent me the barcode, not enough. We need the pre-code, the post-code, and a full catalogue description of the product!

Worst part is that the product is MADE IN CANADA!!! It is supplied to print shops etc (even the local school has rolls) in various lengths. I have only been tried for 3 years to find this Canadian product in a Canadian outlet, no success so far...

Re: Doculam

Here is a Canadian option for you:

This company: carries the laminating machine: that uses the rolled laminate. Perhaps they may be able to supply you with what you are looking for.

This link is for an American company company that carries the film. You may not want to deal over the border but the webpage lists the product number by size.

Hope these may be of some help.

Re: Doculam

Hi Ty

Doculam goes under many trade names ,but any place that does laminating will have it in rolls, just need an in.
There is a wholesale supplier in Kamloops and I remember a lot of their product going to school boards and of course printers that laminate
Staples is not a Canadian company

Started with nothing, got most of it left

Re: Doculam

Thanks, guys, I will try again. The local school was going to save me a roll end for experimentation, but that didn't work. Man, I have never had such a problem finding a product that is so generally in use! I can buy pockets of nearly any size, but ask for a roll? All of a sudden I am speaking Swahili...

And you are right, Gregg: Staples is NOT a Canadian company!

Re: Doculam

GBC makes a ton of different laminating films. They have a Canadian website that you can order from. I have no personal experience ordering with them.

Films range from 1.2mil on up and up to 38" widths. It's lifetime supply sizes though... 250' is the smallest roll.

GBC Nap Lam II 12" x 300' 1.7mil rolls can be found at Grand & Toy, another Canadian company:

From GBC:

Nap-Lam II Thermal Films
Polyester-based thermal film that offers superior adhesion, greater clarity and is activated at a lower operating temperature.
BTW, I have not used any of these films.

Re: Doculam

I will look into the supplier of mine this week if you are still interested. I went to a local printer/laminater, and got the info from him. He wouldn't part with 5 feet of it, I was willing to pay the laminating price, but he gave me his suppliers info, and it was great. They gave me a test roll they had in shop and was about 2 -2 1/2 feet by well over 100 feet long. They told me to have fun. And it works great, just needs lots of heat to activate.

Re: Doculam

Manzano Laser Works is a 'middle man' for Doculam. Based in the US, they sell's it by the yard (3 ft/yard) and ships to Canada via USPS, so no crazy brokerage fees from those greedy couriers. The prices seem reasonable, even the shipping, comparatively speaking with regard to other covering materials available...

I've never ordered from here but I've come across many posts within RCGroups saying they have a good reputation for there laser kits.
