It has been around since 1958...

But, it's still a great thing to see!

Hey I remeber that . For those not knowing that was what is now known as Pearson Intl. Airport Two runways and a cow path back then. It used to be fun to go to the top of the airport and watch the planes land and take off.

I can never forgive the federal conservatives for killing the Arrow in favour of the Bomarc missile system !

Re: Avro Arrow First Flight Video

My father was wiring up the runway lights there when they were test flying the Arrows. Used to tell me that they would pull high alpha on takeoff, (anyone with experience of deltas knows about this trick) hit the afterburners and go for it. Pavement used to smoulder for up to 15 minutes!

And this was with the less powerfull engines on RL201-205. Having been around for a couple of Concorde visits I can guess this probably would have been something to experience once 206 was off and running.

I think the only thing to beat it was watching one of the Saturn 5 launches, which used to set off seismographs all over. We missed Apollo 13 by only a few days.........NUTS! Saw it on the pad, but my sister had to get back to school.
