Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver

Man, I love watching an artist perform their skills, amazing detail there. Peter!
Please keep us informed of the progress!
Is she to be finished for the Kawartha Classics, I fully intend to be there! I'd ride that far just to see this plane. Of course I want to see all the others too.
I'm really praying for the wind to die around here, 20-40 klms/hr steady for a week now. And 33C!! Supposed to rain Fri, then temps drop to 23C and clear for Sat! Funfly will be great if the forecast is true!! flytwice.

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver

Thanks again Flytwice.
I doubt that she will be finished this season. I have run into a glitch that I will writeup when it gets solved.

Besides, its flying season -- between the windy days and heat waves!

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver

Hi Peter: If the Beaver is not finished this year, I'll have a good reason to come next year, right!
Still intend to attend the Classics! Looking foward to the event!
I will continue to watch the progress on this amazing build, as always!
I will try to fly my 8 ft Turbo Beaver this Saturday, only 7 flights so far, 2 since the tree incident. Wish me luck! I will have a couple of spotters which will help! I will get some pictures. flytwice

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver

Hello Cageon Flyer: Well, the Turbo Beaver got flown this past Sat, but not by me! Got a case of the jitters (no known reason), so had a pro take it up. After about 4 1/2 minutes on a low,1/2 flap pass, the propeller decided it didn't need to be on the plane. Rob, the pilot expertly set her down in the long grass off the runway, no damage whatsoever -whew!
The prop collet has been reworked, flat cut in shaft, 4 8-32 set screws to hold it on, all carefully recentred, ready to go again!
Jim Robins did manage to get a picture of her in the air.
lookong forward to the progress on your build when your ready to show us!! flytwice

Thanks Peter, no where near the build levels you do, I hope to fly it again on the 24th in Hanover (Saugeen Flyers Funfly). Last Saturday was just not my day, did not feel comfortable.
Still planning on attending the Classics up there, will start checking out a route soon! flytwice

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver

Hello Peter: Can you tell me where I get the basic rules and flying sequences for Fun Scale?
Weather permittiing, I'm still planning on attending the kawartha classics, even if its only to watch the planes fly!
I have not had the opportunity to fly the big Turbo recently, got rained out in Hanover. Did some flying, but didn't feel comfortable flying the TB at the time, then a torrential rain storm put the final touches on trying!!
Ce' le vie!!
Hope to get out this weekend and thru the week coming to get some flights in.
Any idea how much rooms are and availabilty?. I may have to camp (if I must).
Thanks in advance for any info! flytwice

Re: Detailing a DeHavilland Beaver

The rules for scale flying are on the MAAC website, under the scale Committee.
http://www.maac.ca/committees/maac_committee.php?cm=28

Check the contest website: http://www.kawarthaclassicscale.com/
You will find:
  • A link to the MAAC rules:
  • A couple of articles on scale flying, including a presentation on Fun scale in the articles section
  • A list of available accommodations: There is unserviced camping available on-site.
  • Plus Entry forms, maps etc.

I encourage you to try entering Fun Scale. It is not too difficult, and the competition will be novice scale competitors like yourself.
