Thumbs up "C" rating

Hi All,

Anyone know what the "C" rating on regular Nimh batteries is. I know that high discharge ones are available but what can regular ones produce in terms of "C" rating. All lipos are rated but not Nimh.

Re: "C" rating

I used to go here http://www.cheapbatterypacks.com/?me...D738&sid=92362 but i see they don't have the graphs for the cells online anymore which was handy to see how much each cell could produce.

I use 2100-2500mah rayovac NIMH AA's in my glowplug ignitor and they handle the load fine, so for a regular rechargable NIMH AA i'd say about 1C.

Taken from wikipedia

Under a light load (0.5 amps), the starting voltage of a freshly charged AA NiMH cell in good condition is about 1.4 volts; some measure almost 1.5 volts. This voltage falls rapidly to about 1.25 volts at 10% Depth of Discharge (DOD) and then remains almost constant until the cell is over 80% discharged. The voltage then falls rapidly from about 1.2 volts down to 0.8-1.0 volts at which the cell is considered "flat" in most devices. Mid-discharge at a load of 1 amp, the output is about 1.2 volts; at 2 amps, about 1.15 volts; the total effective differential internal resistance is about 0.05 ohms. Nickel metal hydride batteries provide a relatively constant voltage for most of the discharge cycle, unlike a standard alkaline where the voltage falls steadily during discharge. [10]

Re: "C" rating

I would like to add that nimh ,do not like high charge & discharge rates like the aa size /some of the c cells have been designed for this .but it seem to realy shorten life in the smaller cells (also have a hi self discharde).there are mutch better cell choices now IMO.Roger

Re: "C" rating

I used on a 40% aircraft two sets of 1600Nimh two rec. 3D flying and no problems 4-5 flights 8-10 min. one extra batt pack for ignition.

I have used one lipo pack 2100ma on a 40% aircraft 3 flights 8-10 min. of 3D
no problems, and an 1200ma lipo for ignition.

Now I am using one 3700ma lipo for everything rec. servos, and ignition on a 40% aircraft 4-5 flights no problems.
