I'm certain, that most of us have flown something in a schoolyard. Has anyone ever been chastised for it?

In the 70's we flew 049 control line in our schoolyard in North York (now part of Toronto) and never had a problem with it. Then in Junior High I met some other guys that were also into CL. They in turn intoduced me to a bunch of thier friends and we started doing combat in the schoolyard near thier place-somewhere in Lansdowne. We were at it for a few months- about 6 or seven guys at any given night. Eventually the neightbours got fed up with all our noise and started calling the cops on us. Pretty soon it was a given that we were not allowed to fly there anymore (I dont think there were bylaws there at the time, but I was only 12).

Later I moved to Keswick in my early 20's. Back in the 80's nitro helicopters started to get very reliable with the advent of the "Shuttle" and "Concept 30" Our Keswick club was abot 25 minutes drive from Newmarket. Guys in Newmarket started flying thier heli's in the parks there because they didnt want to drive up to our club. At the time, there were no bylaws in Newmarket forbidding this activity.

Well, you can imagine how pee'd off the people were whose homes backed up onto the parks. The constant whining of nitro RC heliopters all weekend drove them to petition city council and Voila! The town passed a "NO RC AIRPLANES ALLOWED" bylaw within a few weeks.

Today, with electric's I'm sure no-one would say "boo". Many of the bylaws were created years ago because of all the noise the small nitro motors created. I'm sure anyone who wanted to enjoy thier back-yard would agree.

So IMO, most towns that have by-laws in place did it to keep the noisy nitro planes away. These old laws dont take into consideration modern, lightweight and silent RC electrics. Unless you happen to come accross a particularly aggressive bylaw-enforcement officer, I dont think anyone would notice. (THIS IS JUST MY OPINION- dont take my word for it )

Re: Where do I fly RC?

Golf courses that are closed for the winter make a great place to fly...
