Re: New To Me Cub!

Thank you for the information. As not ever flying nitro before I was thinking that 5 minute flights would be my normal, but seeing what you said, 10 minutes sounds more reasonable. Guaranteed I would be just putting around being relatively new and all. Thanks again for your help.

Re: New To Me Cub!

The OS instructions state a 6.8 oz tank should last 12 minutes. Personally, I set the Tx timer on all my models for 9 minutes. Find by then if have not done all I had planned for the flight, out of ideas, patience or stamina and just want to land.

As with anything, a lot will depend on your throttle management. Obviously, at half throttle fuel will last a lot longer than if you used the "Catering Truck" school of throttle control, (idle or full.....).

I've never seen a 6.8 oz tank, nor one of 7 oz to be honest, so would think an 8 oz would be sufficient.

Jon. I put 8oz tanks in all my .40-60 size planes. I like playing “bush plane” with landing and takeoffs in tight spaces... So I add fuel every 4-5 landings.. full tank has run well over 15 minutes with sport/scale flying.

Re: New To Me Cub!

Thank you for the ideas and pictures. That is something I would have never thought of. As well as the suggestion of a U-shaped hook. Simple yet effective. The only other thing I am wondering about is size of fuel tank. It is an FS-48. I do not know how long the engine would run on say 4, 6, or 8 oz of fuel for just putting around the sky. The 10 oz tank I have available right now is pretty big. I have a nice new 4 oz tank I can use, and do not mind pitting and refueling, unless you think the 4 oz is too small.

Re: New To Me Cub!

Not sure if posted these before, but I had some difficulty in my first Saito install as the fuel tank was in the way regardless of carb mounting. I had not built this airframe so had to work with what was there.

I milled a flat in the composite mount and ran this bellcrak rig using some of my heli linkages. You can barely make out the throttle, but that is my standard tubing and cable style used on all my builds. This is flexible enough to route around anything and still low friction. In fact, I use micro servos for throttle as full size are not required.

Yep, keep in mind you can always do the U shaped hook or hangmans hook to reverse
direction at the throttle arm if using a wire coupler. I always forget about that one.
Sometimes it can help keep the throttle out of the way more and less binding

Re: New To Me Cub!

Thanks Dave. Just the standard elbow work of scrubbing and a crock pot of warm antifreeze. I cannot wait for it to warm up a bit more here so I can actually run it. My first four-stroke. I will run it a bit and then re-check the bearings as I know they should be replaced, but was having a hard time with disassembly, as well am worried about that cam gear and lining things back up. My next step is to install a fuel tank that I gotta buy. I have a 10 oz tank, but it is pretty big and I think a 6 oz will be fine enough, as well as I can then put my battery further up front for balancing. Then the dreaded part of any of my builds. Hooking up the throttle.....

Re: New To Me Cub!

With Saito and OS you can reverse the carb, swapping the throttle arm and HS needle to opposite sides.

Another helpful item is the RCSpecialties exhaust adapter such as shown in the pic. It allows for a much wider exhaust orientation, as well.

Here are both their mufflers and adapters. Using both on an inverted P-47 install:

Re: New To Me Cub!

Temporarily mounted with just two screws. Gotta get some 6-32 blind nuts now. Then I can mount it for good.
