The club I am in has such a field, and many of our members, who belong to adjacent clubs whose fields are restricted, also belong to ours, any many travel more than 30 minutes to get to our field.
The other nearby club 20 - 30 minute drive, splintered off of ours over 30 years ago because of driving distance. They didn't like the extra hike to our old Virgil field. Some of our members are from that club and a few have dual memberships, there and also at even more distant clubs. In fact we do have members in our club directly due to the membership cap on the other one. Our roster encompasses 2 clubs, the original, and a Jet group, who maintain membership with us to fly their prop ships, for when their paved area is unavailable. Because we hold the majority of members in the area is exactly why we have to hit the ground running when we suspect our fields are approaching their best before date.

So I can say with great confidence, and from personal experience that 30 minutes drive to fly is generally the deal breaker for most people. But most aren't as crazy as me.

Keep flying until you get the official vacate order, and check what your rental agreement with the landlord says about notice period, plus keep your relationship with the municipality going not only to help you secure a new field or potential field through them or their contacts, but also monitoring the permit process.

Best of luck!

No doubt we'll hang on right to the wire. Good points about the city...Cheers!

A pit, hmmm. Well maybe there will be a future float fly venue?
Seems to me gravel pit ponds are pretty much untouchable for us, at least I don't know of any clubs flying at a pit. Hope it works out for you guys.

Depends on the individual I guess.

I've always got things on the go so I have to plan days to fly. Bring a trailer filled with planes set up a shelter and spend the day. The distance means very little to me for now. If I ever lose my drivers licence that would all change of course LOL.

But based on comments from members of my club as we are field shopping now, anything over 20 minutes drive starts'em a grumbling I think.
Carl I use to do the same thing when I belonged to Flying Tigers during the summer months. Leave the house at 7:30 am on a Sat & Sun morning and came home in the Dark. Nothing like spending 8 -10 hours at the Field flying and swapping War Stories! LOL!

I completely concur!
