Re: Do You Know this Shop?

I bought from them multiple times, prices were not the cheapest but they had on hand most of the Hirobo line of parts which came in handy quite a few times. They are a great source for some of the more vintage parts and some rare plastic kits. I actually thought they had closed but i saw they just really reduced their opening hours.

UDISCO. Several of us cot together and tried to buy a number of Futaba gear direct from Japan back in the early 60's. Somehow UDISCO got wind of our order and threatened me and the group with a lawsuit claiming we were infringing on their ECLUSIVE import/distribution. Still p1ssed about that. Wouldn't cross the road to help them up if they got hit by a bus.

I was just a student, 21 yrs old at the time. I grew up (and still live) in North Eastern Ontario. The older fellow that helped me when I was a kid, in the hobby, used to mail order from Keith’s and thats why I also shopped there. And Skycraft, when they were still in Dundas.

I would just go once a month. I didnt know anyone by name. I used to love to look at the case they had with the old engines and radio gear as well, along with the new stuff.

It was a good hour subway ride there and and another back, usually standing up all the way. It was worth it.. that place got me through some rough times. I didn’t enjoy Toronto much. I’m a small town guy, lol.

I did belong to the Kitchener Dutchmen later when I moved to Kitchener for three years.

I used to take the subway from UofT downtown campus to escape the insanity of the city. I’d head up to Keiths once a month to buy RCM, MAN and FM magazines and whatever else I could scrape up a few dollars to buy. I did buy a few kits from them, and an Airtronics radio set as well. I used to hang out in the store for a few hours and try and forget about real life for a bit, lol.

I did mail order from them as well for a while until they closed shop.

One flip hand starts EVERY time. Throttled perfectly. Decent muffler. I dont know if I got a really good one, but it was as nice as you could ever wish for for an engine. I ran an 11x6 prop on it always.

I dont know why I never bought another.

I personally will not deal with them. If they’ve changed hands, I’d consider it. But GH, AMR and Thunderbolt pretty much cover all my needs anyway.
