Our cash ain't nothin but trash here. Spae Naur is pretty good. My cousin works there. Not sure if they have the 1/2mm sizes. I don't think they had 2:56 bolts last time I went, ten years ago when I lived there.

Our manager of the store here has the same corporate policy but he says that, if he didn't sell to the private DIY crowd, he'd have to close his doors. Oil patch has dried up so he shoots our private stuff under the corporate table.

Hi Alan, I have the same experience here with Fastenal, they changed their business model about 3 years ago, now I need a business, tax number etc. I spent a lot of money over the years with them.

Our local Fastenal store will not deal with the general public. I retired a while back, so they are dead to me. There are other sources, but not locally. I use the Allen head ones too. I got a bunch somewhere. 30mm I think. Some of the bigger motors I had to counterbore a few MM off the case to get enough thread into the muffler. I also like the old Supertiger bolts with the big diameter bolt heads and a slot. The 2.5 and 3.5 mm sizes are pretty hard to get around here. They are common in the .15 and .60 size motors that I have. I got a bunch in Toledo. I left the booth with a bill way over $100 and all in a little wee bag.

I use the 3mmx30 or 35mm with a split washer. Tower lists the length as 35mm for the muffler screws for the 40-55 sized engines. See the link. The third link is for the Philip head muffler bolts, 27mm long.

By the way Floyd, I found that Fastenal carries 3.5mm x 5mm screws with a Torx head.

I will try to see if they are the same thread as the OS ones.

I have changed all of my OS muffler screws to Allen head ones. They are 3mm x 25mm screws. They can be bought at Fastenal, 50 screws for about $8.00 Cdn.

As was talked about in previous posts, just be careful when tightening them down, don't overdo it and strip the muffler threads.

I've always wondered how much money they could possibly save using the different screw heads.
Especially when they already have the Allen head for all the other engines of the same size. Cheers Floyd

Now those are some very true words! I have to also agree with that statement. I think if you stare at the heads of those muffler screws mentioned they strip!

The only screws I've had issues with are the Philip head muffler screws.
It seems OS uses them on all the cheaper FP & LA engines.
