Re: EVOLUTION engines

Had an Evolution engine in my Alpha40 trainer, had so many problems I went over to the dark side - electric. So much better.

Re: EVOLUTION engines

Friend of mine purchased my trainer with evolution motor installed on it. This plane is still flying very well so in my opinion they are not bad motors at all... ( well discontinue now )

Short answer

YES !!

Long answer is that a buddy of mine and I where talking about how everything was on the discontinued page.. Horizon was not giving any answers.. So buddy finally got the boss to call and pressure.. they finally admitted to they are done.

So anyone with an EVO motor like me.. they are now disposable.. fly them till they break and throw them away..

How's that for Horizon supporting their customer base.. like everything else they have been doing lately..

Re: EVOLUTION engines

Don't quote me, but I believe Evo is made by Sanye, which is the same as ASP, AP, Magnum and SC. It may even be making some parts for the new OS. They have moved and are taking a while to set up according to Just Engines in England. Hopefully they will be back soon, as I like the newer blue head line of ASP/XLS Magnum, and the price is right. I have a .46 Evo that outperforms every other brand I have in that size including Picco, OS.. I also have a junk Evo .60 that broke a piston pin that sort of disheartens me.

Re: EVOLUTION engines

I have had no problems with these engines (gas ones). I have 2 x 33GX, 62GX, and a 125.

Run great. Tuning is picky but once there, very solid.

Horizon hobbies has them.

Re: EVOLUTION engines

I havn’t heard if they have gone out of production yet but there won’t be many engine makers left soon if the trend keeps going this way.

We have had mixed results with the glow EVO engines. The .45 TPS version run good but the .46 NT wouldn’t hold a tune at all. When they ran they had good power but constantly had to land and retune. Between my brother and I, we have 2 of each and that is our findings on them. Our OS engines just run and run, no issues. And the Saitos we have are also bulletproof.

We’ve had very good luck with all kinds of other makes (GMS, Tower, OS, Saito, TT, Magnum, ASP, etc etc), just can’t get the EVO .46NT to be a reliable runner though.

Re: EVOLUTION engines

No great loss from my perspective. Had two Evolutions and both were a piece of crap.

I've not had problems with OS and Saito for 40+ years.

Re: EVOLUTION engines

Haven't heard anything, but Great Hobbies shows on back-order and almost every engine at Horizon shows no longer available.
