Re: Excessive exhaust residue

well I guess he should give you a call when he need help with his garden equipment LOL.. few people would ever notice if there chain saw gained a few rpm after 3 years , you obviously don,t , but guys flying gas know when the trim is a few clicks further down every year until it doesn't change any more .. that's what I notice , and it runs cleaner and cleaner as time goes on ..

The 3W site bring up a good point you should never break in with synthetic unless the engine calls for it like some of my 4 cycles . it would take countless gallons to break a engine in on synthetic ..

My Garden equipment has no break in at all. Tiller, Tractor, Blower and Weed whacker. Saito has a 40 minute break in and OS has a couple of tanks, 10 Gallons is rather excessive don't you think. Cheers Floyd

Re: Excessive exhaust residue

Floyd if you flew gas you would know it takes about 10 gallons before they settle in completely , That's quite a bit of flying with a little 50cc on gas. His 30cc would take 5-6 and that is a ton of flying . I have found it takes about 1 gallon of glow to equal 1 liter of gas in flying time . so burning 10 gallons of gas is like burning 40 gallons of glow . just trying to let him know what's normal for a gas engine, maybe nothing at all wrong with his engine , just needs more break in . .

Three years to break in! LOL It sure sounds like some thing was wrong with the engine, unless you only ran it a couple times per year. Your a patient man, I would've pitched it in the garbage. Cheers Floyd

Re: Excessive exhaust residue

Arnold how does the spark plug look. That should tell the tale of the engines running condition. Are you fouling any plugs? You can find lots of racing 2-stroke oils in both Castor and Synthetic and in a blend with some Castor.

Off subject. After I bought my YZ250 I realized how much I missed my YZ125. The 250 was way too powerful and spun the back wheel all the time. Plus in the bush I missed the 6 speed gear box that my 125 had. The 250 was a 5 speed and at slow speeds you were on the clutch all the time. Not to mention it was a pig on fuel. The 125 was lighter and was easier to handle. But like most I had to have bigger. Cheers Floyd

Re: Excessive exhaust residue

Of course Yamaha would have no idea what would be the best mix for a race bike LOL what a silly statement ,and they call for synthetic anyway so you are starving it . Funny I still have my 1998 YZ 125 running 32:1 since new, never rebuilt in 21 years , I live beside the trail and ride almost every day so I put on a ton of hrs , hardly makes any smoke at all @32:1 with good oil .I could run 50:1 too if I wanted to rebuild every few years but I ride so much I need it to last .

Re: Excessive exhaust residue

Most glow fuel makers only have 17% oil per jug. Most engine manufacturers recommend 20% oil in fuel. Other than PowerMaster 20/20 how many of us running glow engines increase the oil percentage up to the recommended amount?

I had a YZ 250 dirt bike and the mix was supposed to be 32:1. I switched it to 50:1 and it ran fine and didn't smoke as much. I beat that bike every time I had it out with no issues. It all depends on the quality of the oil you use.

Re: Excessive exhaust residue

Years ago when the 50:1 oil came out a fellow worker bragged about how much more power his 500cc dirt bike had when he used it. He told us he found some 100:1 oil that he was going to try on the weekend.

Monday morning saw him dragging his sorry butt into the shop, hardly able to walk and gravel rash on top of his gravel rash! Apparently the piston seized at 70mph on a dirt road!

Re: Excessive exhaust residue

If you do have a internal problem with your engine as suggested, I think you'll find out rather quickly as your performance should begin to drop off each time you fly. I would think the first issue would be a mixture change in the engine. And no, I don't deal in any gas plane engines and never will. Cheers Floyd
