As for the up right or inverted flat spins, I have my plane setup (YAK54 40%) with 45 degrees of elevator and 45-48 degrees or rudder.
These two surfaces are pined throughout the maneuver and then there is a balance between opposite aileron and power management. It applies to both up right and inverted flat spins.

Too nose heavy airplanes don't fly properly, too tail heavy airplanes, only fly once.

I find this bang on , very much like aligning a car ,everyone wants a car to go straight down the road , the only way to do that is to give it a very slight lead to one side. set it for dead center with no lead and you will have to constantly correct sawing the wheel back and forth . I find most planes planes very much the same , put the balance dead center and you have to chase them around . but every plane is different .. cheers Roger

Hi David,

Original post over 7 years ago but all the info still relevant.

Remember Rule #1... Altitude is BELOW is your Friend, Altitude ABOVE is useless!

Blender is basically roll strait down after a few rolls go int a snap with up elevator and left ruder and right aileron with a nice burst of throttle the slowly ease up to recover

Yup! Been there - done that! Someone else's plane too!

Got lucky though as it did recover - about 20 feet off the ground!

Height is your friend as stated!

Re: Flat Spins

Last summer was doing a test flight on a 35% ultimate. Best test flight ever. brought it down low because it flew so good. Flat spun it into the dirt. A few fliers helped me gather the parts and we sacrificed the plane In the fire pit at our field. The flat spin gods must have been apppeased as all since have ended up as they should. Lesson learned. Try them up high till recovery tendencies at all attitudes are figured out. Dont give up .

Don't feel so bad Brent

I was once teaching a very good pilot how to flat spin but he didn't quite get the concept of recovery, flat spun that Extra right into the ground. As his instructor I should have never let him do that so low, it was my Extra.

Re: Flat Spins

Its back to the drawing board for me, lost the S-Bach to a flat spin on Saturday. One thing I did learn is how much the price of ARFs has gone up in 16 months!

Guess I should invest is foamy trainer planes! Signing off, been real.

Re: Flat Spins

This summer I started playing with setting up all my planes to perfect neutral. I use the method of going inverted, if it stays level with no elevator input, I consider it neutral. I notice my flat spins and hanging on the prop are much nicer since I have been setting up my planes neutral.

BTW, I have the Redwing RC SBach 342. It is the best inverted flat spin plane I have. It flattens out completely and will do nice tight and slow spins with very little throttle pumping.

Re: Flat Spins

A blender is basically just a straight downline with full aileron. Then you pop it into an inverted spin.

The is a huge section on Flying Giants on how to's
