Re: Fun-Key Jet Ranger 700 Sport

An update. The helicopter body is now sitting on its landing gear. Also, the canopy with all that detail is a perfect fit to the body so no removing any of the other gap filling spacer. It will be time for the plywood pin plates soon and for the magnetic latches to be re-installed on the body. One of the threaded inserts was damaged during removal so I need to pop out and get a 5mm tap to make up a new one. It's just plywood so nothing special like a metal backing plate. I pulled off some thin flat glass from the old doghouse so that I can repair the section of the forward doghouse damaged by the pitch links. I also removed the entire cargo door area as a possible method of doing that door for the 518 version. All external scale details have been removed and saved, even the auxiliary generator intake can be used right off the old right hand door with minor fitting. I have plans to get this up in the air soon but the reworking of the chassis mount will be somewhat tedious so that I don't have a repeat of the last few flights. When I get the chassis installed, it should be picture time. Take care.

Re: Fun-Key Jet Ranger 700 Sport

Hi all,

Today, I got back into the build and started with installing the wood floor as I did in the original build. There will be few changes made but the one that I did here was to use Hysol and pass on the PL Premium. It is not my cup of tea for a structural adhesive and took far too long to fully cure. At least I know by this evening, I can start laying out the landing gear holes and filling in the fuselage seam. Pictures will be few as this has already be covered but where there are changes, I will update as required. I will be using the second canopy and saving the brand new one as a reserve unit. I will put the holes in for the alignment pins and see how it fits. Hopefully, I can use it with the fitting that was previously done which will save removing the filler. That will save an awful lot of work. Take care.

Thanks. I'll have a look at those when I am in Rotor Quest. I thought you had left the country because this is the first post in months from you. Nice to see you back.

Last year I crashed my Roban UH1-N due to a link failure on the cyclic. The 4.76 balls on the Align go very well with the SAB links from a Goblin 420. The SAB links imo are the best in the industry and use them on all my birds, 500-770 size for the larger ones and 380-420 for 550-600.

Re: Fun-Key Jet Ranger 700 Sport

So it's out with the latest and in with the old reliable. Well, at least for the purposes of scale helicopter spool up. Yesterday, I swapped out the Avian 120a for a Castle Creations 120A. Other than that, the capability of the Avian is fine and the telemetry information is on par with what I get from the Castle. This time out, I am running in Governor High as I want four head speeds for the various modes I am using. I like the idea of a ground idle and have been already using speeds for hovering, regular flight, and high winds. I didn't want my spool up to be the same as hovering but it may bite me if I am not careful. It was just a matter of running the setting and checking the RPM output from the telemetry window. I have preset the startup of the rotor and will be trying it out soon. I also picked up the BEC 2.0 and another Quick Connector. I hate the bundle of cable in this installation as everything is up front but it would take a couple of days to shorten the cables down and I am really not wanting to get that far into it. I can see me doing it for the 518 when that happens and I might clean up the MH-6 when its time comes. Take care.

Re: Fun-Key Jet Ranger 700 Sport

A new body kit has been ordered and a scaled back version will come out of this. I will not have as detailed a nose section around the window openings but that will be saved for the 518 build. Many things will just transfer from one to the other and I still have a very detailed build. The instrument panel and all of the interior bits will move into a new nose. I will also keep the vents and move them as well or redo them, it matters little. Maybe by September it will be in paint. I will be making an entirely new chassis mount that will be wider and longer. I may also put a full former at the canopy join area. I am also working on the mechanics to iron out the boom and the ESC as I can't have an ESC that kicks the rotor head like a mule. Take care.

Align special link. When I have the mechanics out in a week or so, I will see if I can modify a better quality link for the job. I may also change the current 4.8mm balls to 5mm on the swash and make up new servo links all around. I have some really good links from Mikado that I have lots of and they are heavy duty in comparison to the ones on the swash linkage. I had it up in the air this evening and it was back to its usual self. Take care.

What brand of link was it?
