Hello foah 2012,
I'm interested in how you got your Midwest Giles 202 weighing at 9#. Was this a kit build? I've bought a used Midwest Giles 202 that is looking like it will come in about 12# with my Saito 120S. This will be a step up from a heavily built 60 size Ugly Stik that I lost early in the season; just don't expect to be hovering or "3D" flying.

I had one in a 72 inch Midwest giles 202. Flew ok but not unlimited vertical.
Plane weighed around 9 pounds.

Blindeye, quite a lot of questions to cover and one that may require its own thread.

having said that, it also sounds like you are relatively new. If so, a warbird is generally not a beginner or even intermediate choice.

From your location I would recommend checking out local clubs. I remember there was one in North Bay when I went to Canadore and may still be a good place to join.

Glow-Man, I have been an engine head since first starting in the hobby and have had quite a few makes on the table, (do them for friends as well, the latest a 3W157 gas twin). OS are generally well designed, but for some reason partial to Saito. There is something to be said for a manufacturer that ONLY makes 4-strokes. For those asking for 90 4-strkes I now go with the Saito 100. Same footprint with generally more power.

At this point think I have close to 2 dozen mounted and in storage, (including 5 or 6 100's). Generally get them used and tear them down to check and set up. The second 125 was picked up at a swap meet for $60! No compression, but from what I could tell low time. Found the exhaust valve stuck and plug hole cross threaded. Everything was relatively easy to fix, although the plug threads were worrisome. As it stands now into its 5th season pulling the 1/5 Waco.

Yes, they do have their quirks and negatives, one being the requirement to replace the entire jug assy if any flaw or damage.

I do like to try new stuff and at one point built 4 YS 120's from boxes of bits and a rather unusual RCV 90 that rotates the entire barrel for valving, and have an OS 160 twin built from two damaged examples and cannot wait to mount that in the 1/5 WACO now on the table. Engine fits entirely within the cowl.

hi you all iam new at that and who ever said there is money in this your right and if one not careful can add to your pay checks ,, but now i have a question what about a p-40e warhawk 64 wingspan how does that fly ,, in ways from ground up and bring her back down from engine to engine what is the best or would one walk away from ,, i have a almost ready bought four engine because of listening to guys talk about power and weight ,is it nose heavy or flys like a tank because it sure looks like one ,, any good advice you guys been into this deeper then me it draws me in like whaling in , iam so scared in cutting out the cowl for i have no idea in the proper size good engine i like the sound of gas but nitro seem to greater power that i was told how wrong are they and if so would a four stroke be a good choice like i mention show i just walk away from it , and put it on thew sellers block i have a million do's and dont to learn but it is interesting hobby that take you to high that out passes and green stuff on the corner ,, haha it be a good club for big brothers ,,

That 20cc gas rating would be equivalent to the Saito 125, which under normal circumstances produces 2.2 HP. From my own experience flying up to and over 12.5 lb warbirds behind both 90 class OS and Saito you may be fine with the roughly 2.1 HP from the OS.

Mind you, performance may suffer due to altitude. Same goes with prop and fuel selection, (or if you install a non-standard muffler). Cannot help with prop recommendations much here as all mine run in the mid 9K range, (on 15% nitro). A bit surprised the OS needs to reach 12K to produce that HP.

Since no idea of performance or behavior of either the Seafury or Mustang would be a guess at how well they would fly. I am stating this since I have flown a lot of warbirds and some behaved surprisingly well, (H9 20cc Corsair for one).

Have also been bitten quite badly by some that were reviewed to be tame. In particular, the T/F Texan had the most wicked stall and the T/T Rare Bear was/is so pitch sensitive that flight and landing nearly impossible, (have not given up on this one so still a work in progress).

On that note, every mod I make to Rare Bear adds weight, and since it is a scale Reno racer there is not a huge amount of wing. It is currently in excess of 13 lbs and hauls behind the Saito 125. Modded the wings for flaps as it would land at jet speeds otherwise.

Currently prepping a 13 lb T/F P-47 and that one will pull behind a Saito 100. Mentioning this as all other installations were side mount and the 47 runs inverted. Suspect the P-51 will be identical and mine will be getting an onboard glow to keep it behaving at lower throttle. Not sure if yours will require the same.

Glow-man Wow! 20lbs. I flew a Seafury with 66 inches wing span at 13-14lbs. I am at 3500 asl and I had to be gentle. Slow climb rate. That was with an OS 120 FSE. Thing is with the new engine I have ,120 pumped, would it be enough for the new Hangar 9 p51 20cc. I am on the fence with buying that plane.

I flew a 1/3 balsa usa cub with a pumped fs120 , very scale power but it flew . I am sure it must have been close to 20 LBS ..

I own multiple OS FS120SE and my biggest plane they power are 66 inches wing span and about 11lbs. Just wonder if the OS FS120 lll pumped is good enough for a plane such as the new Hangar 9 p51 20cc. If you own this pumped engine let me know what you fly.
