That’s the glory of the prairies......Yes, when I lived in Calgary, I used to head east to the hills, and pick a hill along a road that suited the wind. I once had a one hour thermal downwind of a slope near Rockyford, Alberta, in FEBRUARY.
Mostly nobody knew or cared,and I was careful not to disturb cattle or crops. I once had a land owner stop out of curiosity, and it was fun to have him take the sticks for a minute. I don't get big thermals while flying slope here in PEI, and good cliffs are being ruined by subdivisions.
