Canadian NW IMAC contest

I wanted to give a brief report of our contest last weekend here in Alberta. 13 pilots, some with families, attended. 5 pilots camped at the field. Social distancing was mostly observed. I had my dad build some screens (30 x 48) that were placed between judges and scribes. No food was provided and the pilots were responsible for bringing their own food and drink. The contest went off without a hitch and it was great to finally have a contest! We had great weather all day Saturday but because the forecast for Sunday was pretty sketchy we decided to fly the Unknown on Saturday afternoon. The weather Sunday morning was good so we flew another round of knowns. 10 minutes after the trophies were handed out we were hit with a pretty good hailstorm that made the drive home interesting! Hope you guys can make some contests happen in the NC zone! Ive given up on the idea of attending any of the American contests this year but we have 3 more scheduled contests in Alberta!

Re: Canadian NW IMAC contest

Congratulations Gordon. Good to see you were able to have a contest. I am afraid that there won't be any contests here in Ontario this year.

Gordon - they just as of Friday raised the limits on outdoor gatherings to 100 (50 indoors) so that is not really the issue. Of course social/ physical distancing is still to be practiced. I have to say many people are pretty conscientious about distancing, but there are an increasing number of individuals who are acting like we are totally back to normal.

There are other challenges such as washroom facilities at some fields are still not open, mainly because of issue with cleaning and sanitizing them.

I think the CD's here have just decided it is not worth the added work and aggravation this year and I totally get that. Also many of us are still pretty leery of travel and staying in hotels and getting food at restaurants.

Not to say a contest is impossible, it is just that CD's have already cancelled and we are hoping for better next year.

In a normal year I would have probably been down at KRAM's in Grand Rapids Michigan this weekend and headed north to see my good friends in Sudbury next weekend. Sure miss seeing the guys !

Re: Canadian NW IMAC contest

Hi Gordon, happy to hear you guys pulled it off. Congratulations! Wow, beautiful green runway and then a blizzard hail storm next. I just cancelled the Woodstock IMAC contest on the MAAC site this afternoon. I was hoping Steve was going to say, wait a second we may be able to make it

Hi Dennis, ya it was a pretty good storm! We have Didsbury coming up in the middle of August and then Medicine Hat at the end of August...
