Buttoned up the airbrakes this morning and the Gripen is pretty much done. Here's a short video:

Fantastic details!
Chris has some serious competition for cockpits now!

Re: Freewing JAS-39 Gripen

She is a beauty Tom. The close up of the speed brakes looks like the full scale jet. You guys sure set the new standard for scale modifications, especially on foam models. Incredible!

Re: Freewing JAS-39 Gripen

Thanks so much Marty. I must say I really enjoy making these FW jets "my own" with mods like this and the extra time put into a model certainly makes it feel like I get my money's worth, if you see what I mean.

Re: Freewing JAS-39 Gripen

Thank you j-c. I wish I knew a current Hornet pilot and could hear what discussions are going on within the RCAF...

Re: Freewing JAS-39 Gripen

Well even if the Canadian air force isn’t inspired by your work Tom, I am. My Gripen arrived Monday and following your lead, I’m tempted to do a whimsical “what-if” Canadian colour scheme too.
Slight twist...I ordered the ARF+ version and am planning to put my Xicoy X-45 turbine in it...are the air brakes functional?

Re: Freewing JAS-39 Gripen

Holy cow, Bill! Putting in a turbine is for sure a "slight twist" Couple of guys over on the RCG threads have gone that route- I guess you've seen them? Please post your progress with the jet here, if you want, would love to follow your journey.
They're not flight tested yet but I designed the airbrakes to be functional (the hinging and servos should be up to the task) so here's hoping! Should allow for a higher, quicker turn onto final with a steeper approach, theoretically...
I struggled with the fictional scheme as I'm no graphic artist and so ended up with something pretty simple- I want to see where you go!
Great to hear from you Billy.

Re: Freewing JAS-39 Gripen

Tom, wondering if you removed the “as delivered” decals before you started repainting?...and if you did, how you got them off? While I’m waiting for the turbine conversion kit to show up, I’d like to start my what-if Canadian paint scheme and my initial attempts to remove the decals simply resulted in more head scratching.
Tried a couple of times to PM, but will have to try again...
