Slope, thermal ???????????
Don't think distance is much of an option with todays rules. We used to have a powered cross country event but that hasn't been run in quite a few years now.

Re: Canadian RC Soaring Edurance record?

I know they have a world speed record but have not heard of a endurance record for slope. Battery life. wind speed and daylight might be the limiting factors. On a small slope near my place of an old landfill I have had a couple hour flight in a steady wind and that was more than enough for me. I landed because I wanted a break. Wind and direction lasted all day. Would have been a good time to see how long one could keep flying.

Interesting let me know what you discover.

Dennis

Re: Canadian RC Soaring Edurance record?

Years ago there was a MAAC Sailplane Sporting Code. To the best of my knowledge there isn't a current Sailplane Rule Book, so I don't know if anyone could attempt to break or set a Canadian Sailplane record.

The 1994 Sailplane Sporting Code had a National Records section.

Schedule NR-1 Absolute Duration
This record for absolute duration may be achieved either using slope lift or thermal activity separately or in combination.

From the 2014 RC Saiplane Committee Annual Report

In 1984, Open Class Absolute Duration by Stan Shaw (8 Hrs 15 Min, Stan received a certificate, but there is no copy on file at MAAC)

In 1986, Open Class Absolute Duration by Robin Galway (8 Hrs 42 Min, certificate is on file at MAAC)

See https://secure.maac.ca/wcm-docs/comm...86_3_copy1.pdf

I would suggest contacting someone on the MAAC Sailplane Committee

Re: Canadian RC Soaring Edurance record?

That is so cool that some Canadian records can still stand to be broken.

Other than solving the receiver/servos power problem, a slope duration can be had on a windy day waaaaay up north on June 21.

Re: Canadian RC Soaring Edurance record?

I think the only 2 issues that could be a challenge is wind and Bladder control. (:

Hi guys... thought I should chime in here.

I am chasing a number of rc soaring records in both endurance and speed. The initial post was posted by someone that I met online and found out about what I’m attempting.

Having been involved in models aviation for over 35 years now I did hold a number of MAAC freeflight hand launch glider records quite a number of years ago.

I now would like to chase some bigger records and goals.

I have talked with quite a number of people in MAAC including head office and a number of territory chairpersons.

We will find out what the official current record is. Last that we can see with all the information obtained that it’s 8hrs 42 min 43 seconds.

Not only will I be attempting to beat this but I’ll be doing it with my old mentors plane that was used to get the First “Canadian Soaring Society” diamond level. A historic plane that will hopefully make its mark in Canadian RC’soaring history again.

Not only a slope guy but also Dynamic Soar, thermal fly, dlg, and also aerotow large scale gliders up to 50% scale.

If anyone can assist in digging up these old records, and help would be appreciated.

If you would like to follow my adventures. You can look up RC SOARING DIARIES on Facebook along with the YouTube channel of the same name.

Here is a link to the YouTube channel.
