Yep, that is the plan
I just have to trim off the excess balsa in order to reveal the beautifull shape of freshly built airplanes!
The "good" thing is that I am not the most experience pilot so I will reach for that pile more than I would have wanted
Nezt winter is going to be busy downstairs (even more so if or when we get the second wave...).
But seriously, there is a bit much for 1 person (so she says) and I will have to open up to more reasonnable alternatives.

Re: Balsa storage ideas?

Here's a photo.

Horizontal storage shelves drooped over time.
Flipped them to sag back, but a slight droop is good as, you can use it to straighten a warped sheet.

Vertical storage is the way to go (IMHO) for sticks, and new bundles of sheets.

Re: Balsa storage ideas?

Thanks for the pictures. Pretty neet. I specially like the box with a lid on. I am very tight for space so I would add wheels to mine so I could move it out of the way. My workshop is quite small (about 10x20) and oddly shaped. Oh well; at least I have one.
In your box,you used 1/2" ply with 1/4" separator?
I had made a wall storage for hand tools but overbuil it with 3/4": ridiculously heavy. Standing up, it really does not need to be super strong. I also have a few tubes and abs pipes I could uee to store pushrods, sticks, dowels.
You have a nice spot there, makes me feel like tidying up

Re: Balsa storage ideas?

1/4" box with 1/8" dividers.

Can be stored vertically or horizontally.

Re: Balsa storage ideas?

I store my balsa in old kit boxes. Sheeting in one, formed shapes or square stock in another and ply in a third box. I keep the three categories separated for easy access to one or the other. The boxes are kept in the rafters in my basement. I keep the good sheeting taped together but everything else is basically just loose in the boxes with no apparent ill side effects. I’ve been doing this for 10 years now.
