I do not own a 450, but my good friend Mike does and the only way to tame the tail on it was to upgrade the stock tail servo to a Futaba S9257 High Speed Digital Servo!

Your vid is pretty hard to tell how well the gyro is holding, need a bigger area where you can test it by doing some pirouttes!

My gaui X2 with stock tail servo is dam near impossible to get it to lock in as well, i decided to upgrade that servo to a mks 95i.

Should know some time next week if it cures my tail issues!

Re: 450 tail servo

The gyro actually shouldn't be that bad.

Set up questions:

1. Is it in digital servo mode?
2. Did you set up the end points correctly?
3. Have you tried using the on board set up instead of the radio settings? (it may be a radio set up thing so just to rule it out).
4. How are you testing it? On the bench or in the air?

Hey Heli-insane, I just put a .09sec 30oz/in Spektrum in it and its acting the same.

Waylander, Yes its in DS mode. Endpoints as in Travel Limits? Yes travel is good. No bending tail rod. There is no onboard setup. Its a green or red light to pick one or the other.

Video is up.

Channel is gear.

Switch is Flap/gyro

I give up! anyone want to buy a new Trex 450 LOL

Hmm specs on that servo seem pretty dam good as well. I wonder if that 450 you own has any issues with the bearings in the tail rotor?

Re: 450 tail servo

Had a closer look at your pics and video again! I notice you do not strap your gyro down either!

I always use the milton mod on my gyros and my vbar as well.

Yout tail seems like it has a bit of drifting to it! Maybe vibrations are throwing off your gyro a little!

Id try the milton mod and see if that helps.

Just moved the ball to 12mm from center of horn. Same effect!

Re: 450 tail servo

Stewart ... check your Tail pitch slider and links to make sure they are not gummed up with locktite and check your bearings in the tail grips ... they tend to fail often! I had a Brand new Trex 450 Pro V2 with four flights on it ... eat the tail grip bearings! I tried Align replacement bearings and I also tried the ABEC-3 upgrade bearings ... same issues ... 450's feed on those bearings for some stupid reason. I contacted Gareth Burrows of Boca bearings last week and they mentioned that a lot of guys are having issues and he suggested to use these bearing:
MR63ZZ x 2 (Φ3xΦ6x2.5mm) and SMR63C-YZZ: http://www.bocabearings.com/search.a...fSearchResults
MR52ZZ x 2 (Φ2xΦ5x2.5mm) SMR52C-YZZ: http://www.bocabearings.com/search.a...fSearchResults

They are not cheap but way cheaper then a new GYRO! IMO ... there's nothing wrong with Align Gyros!

Hope this helps!
Mike

Re: 450 tail servo

seriously? wow. Dammit I just ordered motor bearings the other day too.

How is that even possible? I'm not questioning your knowledge here. I'm just looking at this thing and its smooth and everything glides nicely. Would you even know if the bearing WAS gone until you pulled it apart?

The only thing that has some play is the plastic slider arm that links to the pitch slider ball. The play is between the slider shaft and thepitch slider. It maybe changes the pitch by .5 degrees. Which might be enough to make it hunt.

I have a video uploading to my youtube. 30min wait
