4 Strokes Sometimes 5

Been running an OS 26 four stroke a lot lately. One of my favorites, runs like a charm with an idle that just ticks over.
Lately after all of the rains here and high humidity, it has been throwing the prop at just under half throttle when running it up. The only other thing that has changed is I am running Omega 4 cycle fuel 15% and had some nice flights with it. Before was using Omega 15% 2 cycle.

Is this a too lean problem ?

When four strikes throw a prop, its lean, yes.

Re: 4 Strokes Sometimes 5

Ok Thanks Joe. That's what I thought.
Since it seems to be about 1/3 throttle, I will try and turn in the low end screw on
the air bleed carb. The high end seems ok.

Re: 4 Strokes Sometimes 5

I remember now that it was a used engine and the low end screw was missing.
So the low end would have been full lean. No wonder such good gas mileage at low throttle !
Since it was an air bleed carb, I wonder if it needs to be tapered ?

Re: 4 Strokes Sometimes 5

That would be your problem I suspect.

I used to get 45 minutes on 6 oz tank on 5% nitro and 20% oil, at 1/3 throttle, with mine.

Gave it to my son-in-law, he put it in a Seniorita and ran it for years. That was the engine and plane that we learned to tow 2 meter thermal gliders with!

Good engine, good memories!
