My first radio was a Heathkit 4 channel & the first plane was a Falcon 56 which I immediately crashed within seconds of hand launching it. The step up from many years of free flight didn't go as planned but fortunately I knew someone who did fly & he taught me well enough that I was on my own the same summer with only minor repairs every now & then. That was in 73 or maybe 74 and I think I built far more Heathkit stuff than planes back then. I still have & use a few of those things today, but the radio was thrown away long ago when I was told it was no longer legal to use. Couldn't give the Rx or servos away so they eventually got thrown out too. Today they'd go to be recycled but that wasn't an option then.
Now my real question about all of this is IF I switched to RC to avoid breaking a leg chasing my free flights through the pasture here or get hurt falling out of a tree retrieving them why do I still have to get the RC planes down from the trees every now & then.

Lol, I have climbed a few trees to get my radio gear and engine back. Not much of the plane left.

Well, it came today (yes, Canada post delivered it on a Sunday afternoon!).

What a throwback. Awesome stuff for me.

Re: my first RC set

We got a parcel (from Canada Post) on Monday (which was a holiday). We have also got mail on Sunday every now & then. Not sure why but it happens.

Re: my first RC set

My very first R/C system was an OS Guppy 2-channel set on 27mHz AM band.

Re: my first RC set

The old fellow that helped me in the hobby had one of those, for a Dumas hotshot boat with a K&B outboard. I used to look at it all the time.

I could be wrong but I think Isotronics were built in Regina way back. Also the same guy came up with the electronic light system for pylon racing ( in Regina) they used back in the late 70’s. Never had an isotronics but do remember them. Looked much like Heathkit and could have been and assembled by him under his own label.

Canada post are working 6- 7 days a week here due to the large volume of mail with on line shopping. That may taper off in time as the stores open up , more and more but think there will be more on line shopping fir stuff that is not a rush.

Re: my first RC set

My first radio was a Galloping Ghost radio I bought in 1969. It was a single channel rig with this mechanical contraption called a Rand actuator that gave sort of three channel control. Great radio for those that liked to fidget with their gear and settings. Flew an Andrews S-Ray with an OS Max .19.

Re: my first RC set

Try this one for old! My brother bought it about '69 or '70 and had to get the schematics from the manufacturer to submit to whomever was responsible for our air waves back then for approval before they would let it cross the US/Canada border. I still have all the correspondence.
