I respected the authority and opinion of the Field Manager. 1 dB is one dB no matter how far your away from home.

Re: That ideal airframe

That would be "rubbing off"!

I should have checked before I left home, now I know. As a guest I did what I believed was right... glad the season is over (permanently), that's a long drive.

I don't know if IMAC will catch on in Sk., other disciplines of flying have events here. IMAC needs a "Mover-and-shaker" in one of the larger Urban Bubbles. I'm out of touch being in the geographic middle of nowhere.

How do I close a thread?

I've been sitting quietly on the sidelines but I can't let this comment slip by. Nobody pulled out a meter and nobody told Brent that he couldn't fly. I am the CD for the event. When I arrived at the field this morning Brent was just getting ready to leave. He told me his plane was too loud and that his property had been hammered by a really bad hailstorm. The field apparently has a posted 96 db. limit and Brent believes that his plane is louder so he was leaving. When I checked with a club representative, I was told that nobody had told Brent that he could not fly. In fact, Brent was told that despite the posted limit nobody ever checks and he was encouraged to stay and fly. I fully appreciate that he was in no mood to fly after finding out that he had suffered serious hail damage but it is unfair and untrue to blame it on the field, club members or myself who all encouraged him to stay and fly despite his concerns about noise.

Re: That ideal airframe

I say check 'em all, at every event. I would doubt you'd be able to find two people who do a sound test the same way. What you weren't privy to Gordon was another comment about plane inspections.

Re: That ideal airframe

Brent, I don't know who said anything to you on Fri. night about sound checks but it wasn't me (the CD) nor was it the club representative who arranged for us to have the field. Like I said, I can fully understand you wanting to leave due to the hail damage (I would have left too) but don't try to make out that the reason was your plane was too loud

Re: That ideal airframe

New week, new direction. I read a guys signature on here and it fits the Scale aerobatics mantra to a tee. To paraphrase "The engine may be the heart of the plane; the pilot is the soul".

Most people new to competitive flying aren't going to go out and buy the "latest and greatest" toy airplane money can buy because that would be just silly. You make due with what you have. But what can a person do to improve the "sole"?

Reviewing my scores from my first two competitions I see a trend. Reading, watching, listening and practicing are just words and actions. One pilot at the CRAMS IMAC event hit the nail on the head. "Coaching"! (Thanks Scrappy) That's what would help the "Soul".

Pure natural ability and talent to fly a RC plane well is rare IMO. Practice helps, but not if you repeat the same ole mistakes time-and-time again. Willingness to accept that you've been doing things poorly is a tough pill to swallow (male ego and all) but can be remediated by good Coaching.

Hats off to all the IMAC guys out there that take newbies under their wing. Perhaps in time the competitive spirit will be found again in Saskatchewan, it likely won't happen in the days I have left.

I hope all the readers of this thread find that happy place where the plane and pilot are in sync.

Happy flyin'.
