That rigging looks great Roger. I have a small metal lathe I got from an estate. I’ve been meaning to learn how to make stuff like your flying wire ends.

Re: 1/4 scale Waco

Hi Andris , If you have a lathe it's pretty easy . You will need a 4-40 LH tap & die to do the turnbuckles . I do prefer the 1/6 piano wire for rigging more then the braded cable ,you can get a much cleaner solder joint ..

Really like the fairings that your kit comes with , looked around but cant find anyone that makes them..

Re: 1/4 scale Waco

Did a few more of the final touches , installed the tail wheel cover , and push rod covers in the rear of the plane , also installed the bracing rods on the tail feathers . the plane required 3.5 oz of tail weight so I made a brass rear wheel hub to replace the light weight wheel that it had , this adds my weight without having to mount weight to fuse ,if further balance is needed I can add or subtract from the wheel . also found a pilot to fly this one .. He look at home in the cockpit .. cheers

Thanks Mike . Instead of bright white I went with ivory white and it really gives it that vintage look. Wanted to keep this one simple and use it for my go to beater plane but just can't seem to resist adding details .. Hopefully I've not made it too heavy to fly nice .. Think it's on the edge @27.5 lbs but it should have the power with that big radial and has lots of wing .. Will have to do some checking and see what others 1/4 Waco's are coming in at ..cheers

Re: 1/4 scale Waco

My 1/4 scale Waco (Phoenix ARF) comes in at just a hair over 28 Lbs. Its got a NGH 70cc twin and flies beautifully. Does every barnstorming maneuver you could want. Definitely not a 3D machine though

Re: 1/4 scale Waco

Thanks Mike , I should be fine then , I don't care for the 3D stuff much anyway . For me it's more about big loops or wing overs with the smoke on , scale stuff.. Is the Phoenix ARF 92". I know some list the planes as the same scale and have very different wing areas . cheers Roger

Re: 1/4 scale Waco

This looks like it will be a sight once airborne. Was thinking, either of you planning to mount a wingwalker?

Its 90.5" WS...being an ARF..it would be quarter scale(ish)!

Never tried a wing walker but my pilot decided to bail at the wrong time on my 1/3 Byron pits and his shoot got tangled in the tail braces , what a thing that was to land with a 1/2 open shoot on one side of the tail and the Tazmanian Devil hanging off the other .. Bad Taz LOL ..
