Today our rudder servo went on strike. Pretty rare for me to have any issues with a 9018 servo but it simply stopped working in the neutral position so no harm done. It will be interesting to take it apart to see if it is something simple like a solder joint. That is the only issue I had with one other long ago.

Re: FlyFly 90mm Hawk

Servo removed and inspected this morning. All wiring inside the case was fine but servo dead. Soldered in a replacement 9018mg and flew a number of flights this afternoon.

Thanks for this... one flight on the Hawk today...again, delayed response to elevat...err, stabilator up input. (very scary on final!) I am running 30% expo and will try reducing it although I’m not aware it’s a problem on any other models where I usually run 30% expo.
I’m running a HobbyEagle A3S3 stab on roll and pitch but I’m not sure the gain was turned up enough.
I am grateful for the support. You find the Hawk your favourite models and mine is the scariest EDF I have. Hoping I can figure it out.

Re: FlyFly 90mm Hawk

If the plane is too responsive reduce throws, don’t add expo. It is the excessive throw that causes your grief. I really don’t see any advantage to expo, especially with a gyro.
You want a proportional response, not an exponential one.

Re: FlyFly 90mm Hawk

Had many flights with the Hawk lately and today made one that was over 8 and a half minutes on one 6S 6000mah pack. Must be my personal EDF record for endurance.
The first 5 minutes involved the usual aerobatics including full throttle knife edge passes and the rest touch and goes.
The more I fly this plane, the more I think it is my best performing jet. Nothing comes close except perhaps the FW Avanti.

Re: FlyFly 90mm Hawk

My Avanti is a favourite too...not so my Hawk...yet. I will try reducing throws and cutting back expo and post again.
This is the first model I’ve flown with a stabilator...is that what’s presenting problems re pitch control?

Re: FlyFly 90mm Hawk

If you have too much throw is likely the problem. Flying stabs are very positive so you don’t need as much throw as elevators (measuring the angle). It only needs about 1cm up and 1cm down travel (with a decent CG).

Re: FlyFly 90mm Hawk

A spectator at our field took some pictures and was kind enough to send them to me.
Thanks Carlos!

Re: FlyFly 90mm Hawk

Nice photos! Great video a few posts back too!
A big thank-you for the small throw, no expo approach to pitch control, Eric. Worked like a charm and this morning I had the two most relaxed flights ever with my Hawk. I’ll try to get some photos to post.
